Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Classic Shirt Sleeve Cuff in the forum liesl + co: classic shirt 4 years ago
Hi @rainpatter Suzanne, you’ve already sewn the collar, right? Well this is the same.
You’re going to sew on top of your previous stitching, for a distance of about 1″, up to the dot and then pivot, and stitch around the curve of the cuff to the other dot.
The words “last 1 inch” are referring to the final 1″ of stitching where the sleeve cuff has…[Read more] -

I’m having a hard time figuring out the sleeve cuff of the classic shirt. I’m following along with the sew along. The instructions say to resttich the last 1″ of the cuff.
Is that the 1″ of sewn area (so the 1/2″ seam allowance + the 1″) or 1″ total (1/2″ SA and then 1/2″ of the sewn area).

Looks like it’s in stock at The Sewing Boutique’s online store. I can’t post a link to the website (gets filtered as suspected spam), but it shouldn’t be hard to find.

I have heard of them! But still would prefer the “real deal”. 😉 I’ll do this if no one has one to offer. Thanks Todd!

Holly, there’s always the option of purchasing the digital version and having it printed large format and mailed. This company does that.

Hi!
I’m looking for an uncut paper Cinema Dress pattern if anyone has one they’d like to part with. I’m stuck at home with no printer, and have always wanted to make this dress.
Stay well!

My tall 7 year old daughter has a 31inch waist and 29 inch hips. She prefers to wear clothes which sit under her tummy. I’m struggling now with what to sew her as she needs skirts and shorts. Dresses are easier as we tend to go for high waisted styles.
Any suggestions got how to manage this, patterns and adjustments and fit based on experience…[Read more]

When I was looking to make a short sleeve version of this pattern there were no pictures to gauge what it would look like. I thought I’d post some pictures of my recent experiments.
A few years ago I made the dress for my oldest daughter with no sleeves, using bias binding to finish the edge. This makes a sweet cap sleeve.
I now have a pale…[Read more]

I ended up flat felling them. But I am inspired by you and another person who said she French seamed them so maybe next time.
I did French seam all the other seams. Zig zag just never makes me happy. Maybe I’m not doing it right? It always ends up fraying some and looking messy. (I don’t have a serger.)
Thanks for your input! -

You can do anything! I have French seamed the whole lullaby layette and it’s fiddly but definitely doable.
Baby clothes don’t get worn as many times as big clothes but they do get more washing per wear so I guess the finish needs to be somewhat durable.
A simple Zig zag stitch would be perfect. -

I’m making the lullaby layette body suit. Just got to the sleeves. What sleeve finish do you sewist out there use for sleeves? I used French seams for the shoulders but it seems impossible (for me at least) to do that for the sleeves so what’s the next choice? I already sewed them. Do you flat fell them, Hong Kong finish, pink them? Other?
