  • I made Ellie a hopscotch dress recently in a jersey knit. I made a 2T with 4T-length sleeves (sorry I haven’t made a smaller size yet). I found the 2T to have enough length in the body but the chest is a snug fit. The crossover bodice comes up fairly high so modesty/too much peeking out in front isn’t an issue. My biggest concern are the sleeves -…[Read more]

  • Up in Sacramento, the California State Railway does a Polar Express (like the book & movie) train ride attraction every year. Seats book up really fast – I sat at the computer waiting for 9am on the morning they opened sales to the general public, and was fortunate to get tickets. It’s set up to be just like the train ride in the book, down to…[Read more]

(And now I suddenly want some tacos! :-P)

If you think sewing is fun
Then you must make a quick run
    For a pizza or tacos
    Or maybe some nachos…
    It’s a wonder I don’t weigh a ton!

Next (I hope this is any good, was thinking of the new pattern releases we were all anticipating!):

I just logged on for a peek

  • This project reaffirmed my love for handmade clothing, especially the aspect of being able to customize a pattern to fit non-average-sized bodies! RTW pants are difficult for Ellie bc her waist and height fall into very different “typical” age categories. I love being able to make clothes that fit well and look great! So different to the…[Read more]

  • if I would’ve gone with her height, yes I would’ve made a size 3T and they would have been the perfect length. However, she’s so slim that even the 2T is plenty wide, especially since I didn’t cinch the waist elastic really snug. I was concerned that a 3T would be too baggy on her so that’s why I made the 2T with extra length. I think these will…[Read more]

  • I just finished a size 2T yesterday! Ellie’s measurements are pretty similar: waist 12-18m or 18-24m, hips 18-24m, height 3T+. I made the 2T and just added length to the bottom panels. If I wanted them to fit perfectly right now, I would’ve only added about an inch (I added 3″). I made the elastic in the waist a bit loose too, it won’t fall down…[Read more]

@miss_sonja they were only 15% off, which for a normally $11 pattern wasn’t a huge discount. It’s a PDF-only pattern, so the price is pretty good!

Fixed my profile picture! Tho it was right side up on my iPhone, it kept loading sideways when I tried uploading it here. Weird. When I emailed it to myself and opened it up on the laptop, it uploaded right side up here in the forums. I’ve no idea why, but at least it’s oriented correctly now!

I haven’t *technically* started my Christmas sewing yet, but I’ve pre-washed some lovely AMH interlock knit to make my mum a Late Lunch tunic as her present. It’s the next project after I finish these field trip cargos! Also on my Christmas sewing to-do list are: stockings for Olivia and my niece (I’m the “stocking-maker” in my family and this is…[Read more]

    I say:
    – crayons (2 syllables)
    – soda (my husband is from Ohio and usually says ‘pop’)
    – swimsuit or bathing suit

    – my husband says “crick” instead of “creek”
    – my mother-in-law “warshes” her dishes as opposed to washing them. Another Midwest-ism, I think.

How do you say “roof” and “mirror”? For me:
    – ‘roof’ pronounced “rufe”
    – ‘mirror’ has two…[Read more]

She’s only two, so Ellie isn’t as intelligibly conversational as the stories above! But she cracks me up…

Every day when I put her down for her nap, it varies on how long it takes her to fall asleep. Many kids would get cranky lying in the dark unable to doze off but not Ellie! She will entertain herself for what is sometimes hours. I’m not s…[Read more]

I’m having a whirlwind romance with chambray right now…I have 4 different colors/brands in my stash/scrap basket right now. Currently, sewing up some field trip cargo pants in RK interweave chambray in ‘boysenberry’. Absolutely gorgeous color and material, so easy to work with. Whenever I sew with difficult fabric, I think I’ll sew something in…[Read more]
