Tamara, thankfully in 2nd grade they only compare how well their dresses spin! 😀
I do remember for my own first communion in Catholic school we had a uniform — a very sweet empire-waist puff sleeve affair in voile.
How old is your girl for confirmation — is it 7th or 8th grade? At that time (even more so than others) they grow like weeds and…[Read more] -

late September is edging into spring, right? I’d say something that you could layer because you never know if it will be chilly or beautiful weather. maybe a Library dress or carousel in white flannel?

I’m sorry, the pictures work for me! I hesitate to add them to the o+S flickr pool because it’s not an o+S pattern, but they are in my photostream…

so the angst with regard to a magnum opus was not unfounded, but i am overall pleased with the result. I drafted a princess-seamed full circle skirt with long sleeves.
Silk dupioni lined in cotton voile, with embroidered organza sleeves and veil. I bought silk organza and was going to do the embroidery myself, but chanced upon some leftover from…[Read more] -

@cat75 I’ll preface my response by saying I have no bust so haven’t done so myself, but I suspect you should.
It’s a top with a moderately wide neckline and a dropped shoulder. If you go with your full bust size you might find the whole thing too saggy sack like.
With a decent high/full bust difference if you fit to your high bust/shoulder it may…[Read more] -

a nice stiffener for small items like this is thin (1/16″) craft foam… it sews through without a problem and washes fine, especially next to wool. Vilene is water-soluble, but not a problem if not water-washing.

So very excited. We sign on a city flat for our Biggies today.
We had always planned to send out chaps away for years 11+12 but our local school is just so excellent, there was no need. The money we have saved for fees has made a good deposit on the flat.It is very central and close to good public transport (and University)and a gym plus the…[Read more]

Nicole replied to the topic what's the most difficult thing you've ever sewn? in the forum off topic 8 years ago
@sarvi , thank you!
I now have an outer shell finished and bits of lining sewn to vents and I just have to do fabric origami and put it all together.

I have not made this polo but I have made a lot of polos. 😉
I usually transfer the markings from the pattern front.PS Don’t forget to stay stitch the neck line, it can ver very useful for safe clipping when easing the collar in place.
Good luck!

I do, I use fold your own bulky towelling squares. 🙂
I simply size up, usually two sizes then when they are out of nappies, you have shorts waiting. -

@Buratti made some good points. My youngest is not as easily amused as my older children were, so my sewing is back to only a couple of hours a day (but my house is sparkly and washing up to date as she likes to help with those)
I have a new ‘most difficult project’ a jacket I am making my son. I have already put in 9 hours and only 1/4 of the…[Read more]
