Rachel, what else do you have on your plate? The Hide and Seek is a quick sew but yes, the hand embroidery can take a while. Do you have an elaborate plan? If the stitches are similar/repetitive I find it goes more quickly than something freeform.
Ock Du Spock, the Bubble dress is a quickie. In fact, now that I think about it, I might take a…[Read more]

@juliamom2009 I love her response! Both for the sweet concern for her friends, and for how proud it must have made you feel!
I got our Hiccup (http://wm.schoolofdragons.com/SoD/Joomla/templates/schoolofdragons/images/DTV_cg_hiccup_03.png) costume done in time thanks to @maraya giving me great tips on which patterns to use, and then had to make…[Read more]

But I love the idea of pyjamas and holiday wear, can’t wait to see all those adorable/gorgeous things everyone makes! What are people planning? I think I might go for red plaid/tartan (what’s the difference? I think somebody asked before) this year, and flannel pyjamas.

Haha, Heidi, your tablet is so cheeky!
I confess that I feel unable, with all my grey hair, to say ‘linky party’ with a straight face. These internet catchphrases are a bit past my time, or should I say, past my timey-wimey, haha.

Hang in there, @dubhels2003 ! Lively babies grow up to be determined people, I think, and as tough as it is now, you’ll never have to worry about anybody pushing her around later in life 🙂
What a nuisance for your fabric to arrive with blemishes, I just hate it when that happens. Glad you were able to fit the pieces in just same!

Ooh, I would love to hear more about your theatre work! My daughter’s ballet school puts on performances at a local theater and they recruit family members who can sew to make their own costumes in house. (My daughter’s not performing, but I love theatrical and film costuming and am always amazed at what they turn out)

Oh, what a pretty dress on such a pretty little girl! You’re a wonderful friend to put so much into this, and you can really see in her smile how great she feels. Well done!

I’ll be watching this thread with interest. I have only used rayon once, for the skirt of a dress with a cotton bodice. I had to wash it as I’d dyed it with indigo, and thereafter I machine washed it along with other cottons. I have probably machine dried it by accident once or twice (kids’ clothes always sneak in there) but usually line dry. It…[Read more]

This will be a good challenge for me. I’m not really a masher upper and I don’t know why, I always like the results other folks get quite a bit.

Nothing to add to Nicole’s excellent advice, but good luck, I’m sure both the kid and the parents will be delighted to have a special, pretty dress!

Do you especially want to include a placket, either for looks or ease of dressing? Because otherwise that looks not unlike a Class Picnic top (possibly available on clearance!) with a bit of elastic gathering at the wrist end of the sleeve.

Oh! Of course — my reading comprehension is not so hot before my morning coffee kicks in! 6″ should be plenty and nana can always trim if needed.
