Hi Renee, pleased to ‘meet’ you!
    🙂

I completely agree about the lack of stylish little girls clothing in the RTW market. I am have a blast dressing my littlest two girls (the older ones are nice too but the little ones still wear whatever I like).

I also agree that the patterns are failsafe, which is so nice when we are all far too busy to…[Read more]

You *can* absolutely, but it can be a little rougher in texture so if your child has sensory issues, perhaps check that first?

Check your width too, make sure it is not too narrow or it is just horrid to attach.

You are right Lucy, it is a lot quicker. 🙂

  • I am with Heidi on this one. This is a dress that will look okay a bit big, particularly if you have a bow to cinch it in at the waist, it also looks very pretty swinging a little free.

You sound as if you really want to make it? So make it in the 2T and it will fit, at some point. You can always add a largish hem too.

    🙂

  • I would use the larger size if you really don’t want to try and merge 2 sizes, however if you’re willing to try it’s not to hard.
I would trace the 18-24 size through the shoulder, neckline and half way down the armhole. Where all the armhole lines cross over I would change to tracing the size 2T for the rest of the bodice. I think this would…[Read more]

  • I wonder if it’s more of a shape issue than a size issue — would leaving the darts unsewn on the 18-24 leave enough belly room while still fitting nicely around the shoulders? I don’t recall whether the 18m size has the waist darts? Unfortunately it’s hard to predict how much a kid that age will grow in four months, but I can understand wanting…[Read more]

  • I would say that you wouldn’t actually fold the fabric as per you would ordinarily to get the result because the tucks moght end up a bit off. Would trace the pattern on the fold but not cut it on the fold in order to get the full piece and then work from there to determine where to put my tucks.

This is just how I would do it.

    • Hey Nicole, didn’t I see your layette in grey as well? Great neutral choice.

  • I’m working on a size 7 School Days coat. It’s got a purple pinwale courduroy outer, fleece scraps interlining and navy satin lining with purple board cloth hood lining! I’m constructing the linings first then the outer 🙂

  • Great plan, @meleliza ! I know what you mean about upcycling adult clothes. You’d think there was ample yardage but the seams hit in funny places, and often unpicking the seams is so much trouble for so little usable fabric that it makes more sense to just trim them off. I do have a nice little pile of pretty buttons robbed from old Banana…[Read more]

I understand! Still it is no excuse to not enjoy the experience. You would make overseas friends and set up networks that would probably allow them to visit you in Australia. And we all know there really is no place like home.

You are actually giving your girls a wonderful experience – I lived overseas as a child for a year and still draw from…[Read more]

@justsewit Our posting is for three years, if we have so much fun we don’t want to leave, I will be in the same situation I was in 3 months ago, saying some very sad goodbyes. Only this time I won’t be saying “We might be back in three years!”
I think I’ll be pretty desperate to go home and spend some time with my family though.

    Thanks Nicole!…[Read more]

We had no power yesterday for much of the day so sewing couldn’t be done. I did make a start on tracing some 6-12 month sized items ready to forge ahead on them before they are actually required. It will work well with a busy winter schedule.

  • I just finished a gorgeous bright blue courduroy and floral short Tea Party Playsuit for a friend’s baby girl due in a month. This is the fourth Tea Party item I’ve made this week.
I’m planning on moving onto the School Days Coat for the first time, in purple swirly courduroy, lined with fleece 🙂
