Well as luck would have it, I placed a carpet rug under the sewing table and an old cot blanket under the machines and I think it has done the trick. I managed to sew successfully throughout sleeptime yesterday without waking her up! Not that there was heaps of noise before hand but the vibration of a rattling table seemed to unsettle her. I also…[Read more]

OH yes, J; buttonholes make me very anxious, too. Even when I practice many times on scraps of the same fabrics with interfacing etc, things still go ‘wrong’ too often for me to feel superconfident. Sometimes when the task looks extra tricky, I go for press studs instead – a lot more work but less stressful. Good luck with your sewing for school…[Read more]

Yes sewing has been attempted but not exactly carried out at this end too! Today however, I managed to sew the side seams on both the family reunion dress and puppet show dress. I am hoping to finish both of them over the weekend.

  • I haven’t done a lot of sewing recently. But today I finished the denim quilt I’ve been working on 🙂

Partially finished two pairs of Sketchbook shorts for separate boys; waiting for fitting feedback/elastic etc before they can be finished. Dug out an After School top (size 2) that I cut out several years ago – I think I gave up because of the more demanding construction of the yoke. Having made the pink version a few weeks ago, I feel more…[Read more]

  • Hi Jeanette, I’ve only muslined this one,but I went with my regular size an added an FBA. There is a looser silhouette, but I don’t think it will hang right without the FBA. What have other folks experienced? It’s not the answer you’re looking for, but my advice is to make a muslin.

  • At the risk of being ‘difficult’, would one colour, and black be ok? I’ve been planning an outfit in aqua cord with black contrast using the 2+2 top, and a Hopscotch skirt with pockets (I’ve been wanting to try the cute pockets but fabrics I’ve used so far have been too busy to be effective). This lot is for the same child for whom I made the…[Read more]

  • I need to try other knits. Unfortunately, even though the prints are wonderful, I was just not a fan of the interlock. I am having another go with the top though, this time using a tried and true knit I have in the stash and will go with white and a coloured collar. They will be short sleeved as the heat is turning up.

Yes I agree Kerrilyn, rethreading in the correct order helps as I have experienced this. Jumping thread out of the loopers I have also experienced and the only way to fix this (in my experience) was to rethread in order.

I completely sympathise with you over the ordeal of an unhelpful repair person. I had issues with a sewing machine years ago…[Read more]

  • I was using city weekend interlock and the cotton of the same design (pink spots). Unfortunately interlock and I do not get on and the machine thought it would be nice as lunch when doing a buttonhole! I think I will just use up the rest of the interlock (of which there is quite a bit) as leggings or something.

  • We’re waiting from confirmation from the printer yet about when everything will be ready, but we’re tentatively planning on the second week in September. We’re at that point in the process where it’s mostly up to how fast the trucks can move back and forth across the country.

May I ask, what have you tried and what has been recommended to you by the repair person?

I have a Janome and I know that even though mine doesn’t pop, when the machine has come undone somewhere in the threading, it won’t chain well. Sometimes it kicks itself out of a hook somewhere and you wonder how the heck it happens but then I just have to…[Read more]
