I’m in, I think, with a dress for Thanksgiving. Possibly a mom-n-daughter set if things don’t get too crazy busy.
I have a black and white cotton knit item that I was going to hack up and repurpose, but might need more than that to make a dress… -
Reeni replied to the topic Would you resize the LTTS back pack up? in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 9 years ago
I re-sized the LTTS backpack also, because she needed one that holds folders. (the original one I made now holds her dance class stuff.) I reinforced the bottom piece and somewhat up the sides, added a gussetted zipped front pocket, and contoured the straps so that they fit better between her shoulders and torso (Rather than straight up and down,…[Read more]

Reeni started the topic inspiration for First communion dress? in the forum Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years ago
what are your favorite sites to browse for ideas? Just brainstorming as it is a whole schoolyear away (April 2016) but if previous years are any indication, my daughter’s school tends to go rather big. I can do big and princessy, but I’d also like to have some meticulous wouldn’t-do-this-for-anyone-but-family handwork, and of course really…[Read more]

I have made the fairytale dress with a circle skirt a few times, it is hands down one of dd’s favorite silhouettes. Basically, you want to draft a doughnut with the diameter of the center circle being the hip measurement/3 (or measure, then lay out the tape in a perfect circle.) Then measure outward from that how long you want the skirt to be, and…[Read more]

Reeni replied to the topic Uniform Fabric Sourcing in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I have had good experiences with Onlinefabricstore.net. I plan to get some of this to make dd new uniform skirts:
navy brushed 100% cotton twillit seems pricey but it is 60″ wide so good value. they also have a
regular (not brushed) cotton twill… this is the more hardy stuff that is not as soft, have used this for ds’ pants. -

I have had this this organza on Etsy in mind for a special occasion dress for a bit. I think it would make a lovely Pinwheel overdress or Apple-picking or Carousel with a pale lining.

Reeni replied to the topic Sketchbook shirt for a girl. in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 9 years ago
i have made my girl some as uniform shirts, they require a peter pan (rounded) collar. I just trimmed the points, but you can also swap the collar for the one from the Puppet Show or similar. Pretty buttons are a nice touch too — dd loves the one with “pearls.”

I can help too, I think… with sorting, packing etc if you’re in NYC or with the forum sale.

Reeni replied to the topic Buying a pattern for one view – making the other. in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
yes! Often what happens to me is that the pattern and fabric I matched up in my head do not agree at all. So I end up with making the pattern in a different fabric or the fabric needing another new pattern. Unfortunately for me that means a huge stash of both!

Reeni replied to the topic Drawstring pants? in the forum oliver + s: after-school 9 years ago
you can also use some nice colored elastic as your drawstring. It’s easy to tie and untie for little fingers, but also works if they just want to pull the pants on or off without untying.

Reeni replied to the topic RTW Alteration? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
If you already have them and can’t return, the changes for a sleeveless sundress could be as simple as running elastic through the neckline to gather it up, or adding a belt. If they have a full tailored bodice, hold up a shirt to it to see the proportions you’ll have to take in. Sometimes vertical tucks through the shoulders and down to the chest…[Read more]

Reeni replied to the topic Center front shoulder straps in the forum off topic 9 years ago
as far as supporting the weight of the dress, it would depend on the size I think, and whether it is very heavy (like with a full skirt or pettiskirt etc.) Do they tie in the back and not at the top? I’m thinking that drooping at the front/sides would be an issue if the bodice is only shirred at the back and not at the front, because the contact…[Read more]
