The Popover is the fastest sew ever, and a good showcase for gorgeous fabric. My favorite to sew is the Jump Rope, because I love plackets, but the Carousel would look gorgeous in linen.
Sun-drying, though eco-friendly and free, is bad news for lycra… so is water/detergent that is too alkaline. -

Good idea! I think I’ll use the Nature Walk as a size guide for the draft since I’m using a woven, and make it a raglan.
Between us sewists, there is no such thing as “one size” when it comes to puberty! they are mostly in the 30″ chest range tho, with a few smaller and larger.
I’m happy to do fun/utilitarian sewing like this because it means my…[Read more] -

I am just getting used to sewing with knits, and for sewing I’d pick wovens any day! (but for wearing and washing practicality knits have it.)
I try to have the knit hanging in the direction of the grain a few days before, it helps to keep it straight on the table. I use lots of weights (cans of beans/tuna work well in a pinch!) when laying out…[Read more] -

My daughter’s dance school is doing a production of Wizard of Oz and they need jackets for 20 or so flying monkeys, girls ages 10-16.
I plan on making them from lightweight twill and stencilling on the red/white parts with fabric paint rather than applique (since they will be viewed onstage and not up-close anyway). Should I use the Field Trip…[Read more]

I think it is a fun and cute idea to coordinate for the bridal shower, and less attention-calling than to do so at the actual wedding. I do remember from my own wedding that our flower girl’s mom was in many of the pictures of the bridal party — also because she was the ring bearer’s mom! I don’t know about small and large dresses that look the…[Read more]

Jinx is a big thing in this house, and there is “jinx again, double-jinx, no givebacks.”
I laughed when Anna and Hans did it in Love Is an Open Door.
Snap is for card games, I thought?
I grew up (in the Philippines) with them being called soft drinks, but refer to them now as soda (NY). I had a chef who called it bubble juice (in reference to the…[Read more] -

i have multiple tracings of some patterns because of sizes for two kids; I mostly have PDF printouts but some larger patterns that I am loathe to fold too small. I really like the portfolio sleeves that are 17×14, but they can get pricey so i have a few patterns in each one. I also like the zipper bags that are 13×15, but those are kind of floppy.…[Read more]

I am trying to teach myself drafting as my kids outgrow the o+s pattern sizes that I have. I am actually pretty pleased with the way that this year’s Halloween costume came out. (Trigger warning for those who have had enough of Elsa/Frozen lately!) http://chefreeni.blogspot.com/2014/11/girly-costume-for-halloween-long-live.html

I am planning on making this for my daughter’s very first school pictures (she just started pre-k!) the first week of October, to be used again for Thanksgiving probably; I’m also planning to modify it for a halloween costume/dress-up princess dress.
For her school pictures, I am thinking dupioni if I find any in a nice color, or taffeta in a…[Read more]
