I would underline using something like cotton voile or even a single cotton gauze. Just thick enough to stop your seam allowances being visible.
Then line in a lightweight cotton, or maybe bemsilk lining.
Cut the skirt as one piece so you only have the centre back seam and then you could get away with not underlining the skirt, but I’d do it…[Read more] -

I really, really wish you lived closer and could touch this fabric. Photos don’t do it justice as it’s a plain black silk, no patterning or funky texture, but *gosh* it’s nice.

I have not yet made it in eyelet, but I’ve made it with a lace skirt, and made the Pinwheel in eyelet and many of the same tips that apply to sheer fabrics apply here as well. The area where you want to take special care is in how you handle your seam allowances — both for the eyelet and for the lining. Normally you don’t have to go to tons of…[Read more]

Thank you for the email. Heidi is right. It is another reason to love this. Also an errata makes me feel better. I was like.. hmmm… am I insane? Can I not sew?
Now off to download my new digital copy with the errata fixed! Another reason to love it. I get a new “fixed” copy of the pattern!

I haven’t sewn at all yet today. I am tossing up what to do. We have an event next week and I need to make something special for the baby but what pattern? At the moment I am swaying between the garden party and the library dresses. I am not sure how the garden party goes in terms of fit on a baby of 6 months so I guess it means measuring and…[Read more]

Oh, Sarvi! I love that idea (and…a new website browse).
Heidi, good point! I have that one and plan to use it. I never have great luck with knits holding up as well as wovens, but will absolutely make a few.
Thanks!

How about the lawn/shirting weights from Yoshiko Jinzenji (sp?) — they make terrific little shirts and aren’t too hot.

I’m more a fan of versatile basics than prints (with the exception of liberty of course). HOWEVER, my boy starts kindergarten this fall and dress code dictates that he must wear a collared shirt each day. I thought to make things a little more kid friendly I’d buy a few cute prints for shirts for the school wardrobe. So…what are your favorite…[Read more]

Hi all,
So I think I figured out why the polo placket was giving some of you issues. We’ve issued an errata for the pattern, so check the page before you sew your next one. However, rest assured that if you’ve already started sewing one it will still work without the corrections! You’ll just apply the collar a little differently and start from…[Read more]

Do you still have the piece that you cut out? could you tape it back in place? I’m sure you’d have thought of that already. I don’t know if I have the smaller size but when I get a chance I’ll have a look and see.
