I’m fairly certain you wouldn’t need them–they’re really more of a design detail to define the shoulder/armhole than to hold the two layers together. Just be sure to smooth and pin and you should be fine without the topstitching. Can’t wait to see!

The only thing I suggest is that you practice changing the threads and sew on scraps first. I’m still new to mine, and I’ve had a few times where I was gung-ho and didn’t make sure my fabric was out of the way, and cut into my fabric and not at the seams 🙁 So I tend to sew without the knives until I need them, and go carefully when I do.…[Read more]

Yes, velveteen is cotton velvet. Nicole nailed it: poly velvet, etc. Should be a really cute dress!

OK – another question because I am just finally somewhere where I can see a wide variety of fabrics in person. Velveteen is cotton velvet, right? I’m talking about a drapey stretch velvet that is polyester. I do prefer natural fabrics in general but as this is a special occasion dress I told myself I wouldn’t mind if she didn’t wear them for…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Printing PDF Patterns in the forum oliver + s: bubble dress 14 years ago
Thanks for pointing that out. It’s odd, and you’re the first to notice it.
It looks like 1/8″ was added to all sides of each sheet when the Bubble Dress file was generated. (I’ve checked all the digital patterns, and it was only this one that is sized that way.)
The good news is that this won’t have any impact on the accuracy or sizing of the…[Read more] -

You should check the errata notice for that pattern. All the details are provided for you here:

I’ve just made this one in a velveteen (view B). I’d bought a fabric remnant on sale that was only about 70cm yet I got the size 5 out of it. yay! (with only a join in the collar at the front – hardly noticeable). I only had the larger pattern. Now I just have to wait four years for my daughter to fit into it!
I like the idea of lining the…[Read more] -

Thanks Nicole,
I am planning to add press studs at regular intervals (as I have a snap press which makes it really fast to add) for size adjustment, but needed a idea of where to start.
How/where have you crossed Matilda’s over, as the pattern already calls for it to cross over on the back?
thanks Heidi
P.S. I really like the new trench coat you made. -

I went and measured the one I made. I placed the first velcro 8 1/2 inches from the end of the strap (not where it attaches to the carrier) and the second 12 inches from the end. My carrier is for my 4 and 7 year old daughters. Hope that helps!

I am making a bear carrier for a Christmas gift and it’s a little hard to visaulize how it goes together without trying it on the child.
Should the soft velcro peices go on the same side of the straps as the buttons (the carrier’s lining side of the straps) or the other side?
Thanks for any help! - Load More
