Unfortunately the last time I was in Paris it was before I did much sewing, but I can recommend that if you visit the Jardin des Plantes, head out through the back exit and have a cup of hot, sweet mint tea under the fig trees in the back patio of the Paris Mosque.…[Read more]

  • you’re reading it right! The gathering stitches are at 3/8 and 5/8 and then you sew in between them at your normal 1/2 seam allowance and then remove the visible gathering stitches after sewing the seam. Doing it this way gives you nice even gathers. Good luck with the rest 🙂

  • I don’t know anything about fabric shopping, but as a fellow cyclist, if you’re brave enough to do the rond-point at the top of the Champs Elysee then go for it! If that sounds horrifying then I’d check out the velo-libre system and whether they still close the road along the Seine on Sundays. That’s a great scenic route.
Or, head out to the Bois…[Read more]

  • If you don’t want to go the vintage route (sizing issues, etc.) I second the comment about the School Photo Dress. People often call that the Jackie O. dress. A few easy modifications will get you exactly what you want.

“Science is for girls.” Love it!! Haha

I love the coloring book idea. Stashing that in my mental museum for a year or two from now when Ellie is old enough to want to “play” with fabric ;).

I too give both my kids dates. I try to sandwich them in with a scheduled activity. EG: Alex has dance at 4-5 and 7-8 on Friday evenings. Every couple of weeks from 5-7 we grab dinner and go to the book store or something to make a date of it. So I try to sneak in the date like that.

Sometimes at home, I will also tell one child (when there…[Read more]

  • I am in the US. I have to double load the O & S site too. But only on mobile devices, whether on cell or wifi. (iPad/iPhone).

My desk top loads ok, and both are wifi.

As to http or https, my address bar shows neither. There is no http displayed.

  • That’s exactly Reeni was talking about with Fairy Tale—I made the view with sleeves, so never read the sleeveless view LOL. That worked perfectly! Now I just need to hand stitch it. WOOOT!

I’m really bad at explaining things some days. I probably should’ve uploaded a pic.

  • Mmmmm I’ll need to look at fairy tale and see.

My pre-made binding is on the bias, so I’m good there. I just don’t like the way it looks with the dark navy at the arm holes vs at the neck only. I will play!

I’m really just looking for ideas of where to go and what to see/ do. We will be there June 12-15. I am running the Nike Women’s 15K on the 14th. I know nothing about the area. I have been Googling and reading as much about Toronto as I can. It’s just nice to learn insider knowledge from a local. 🙂

  • That’s pretty much what I would do 🙂 But someone else may have a better idea.

  • Ok, So I think I want to make this sleeveless. I’ve never done a hidden binding before, and I don’t have enough of the main fabric to cut binding and have it blend with the fabric. I *DO* have pre-made binding that would fit.

Am I making too much out of the process or can I just sew the binding on sort like quilt binding, and just fold…[Read more]

  • I am in the U.S. but I have also noticed a problem with the site loading – it has been at least a month, and it happens on both my computer and my husband’s iPad. I always have to go up to the search bar on my browser and hit enter to make it reload before it will load up. If I don’t do that, it just says “loading” indefinitely. This is for the…[Read more]

Oh, good grief Nicole! Look at how gorgeous the two of you looked on that day! Timeless beauties–both of you. I wouldn’t have been able to tell if that photo could have been taken 150 years ago or just last year.

    Congratulations!
