So much for the great blizzard of 2015! But schools are nevertheless closed, so there’s still a little extra sewing time. 🙂

Mud isn’t such a huge issue in the city! Rather dogs. Dog people don’t feel they need clean up after their animals if it’s cold, so when the snow melts there is quite a lot left behind. Yucky.

I find myself between projects conveniently when we’re supposed to be getting a big nor’easter tomorrow. I know I’m not the only one here in the path of the storm! What do you all have planned?
Here, there’s a cut of linen sweater knit waiting for me. I’m not really a knit sewing person, but I recently did some costumes in knit and the cardigan…[Read more]

I think you would want to slash and spread the pattern in the center as well as adding to the sides to give you a nicer a shape. I don’t think a muslin is necessary, but I also wouldn’t use my favorite fabric the first time.

I used to knit all the time. It was nice for the boys when they were little as sewing boy stuff is just less fun. I made them some really beautiful sweaters back in the day. However, now, they grow too fast and need way too much yarn. A sweater for oldest son would need 800 yards and take me a year. Bleh. I also grew frustrated with how difficult…[Read more]

I have a wedding to go to in June and two boys who need blazers. I’m ready and waiting. 🙂
It is very good to know that a pattern will go together without a hitch and that the drafting is reliable. So many things can go wrong with a project that it’s nice to know the pattern itself won’t.

meleliza replied to the topic Added a Skirt Lining-How Do I Sew the Zipper? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
Yes, that’s what I would do. Keep the lining entirely free except at the neckline. Attach lining skirt to lining bodice and then attach the lining to the zip on the inside. For some dresses And an invisible zip, I do this with the machine, though sometimes hand stitching is just as quick, depending on how you must contort things to get them under…[Read more]

So there’s a relationship between the correct underwear and a side zip? Hilarious.
I have other side zipped dresses, but they are either V or wrap neck and mostly short sleeved. I think it’s the high neckline, plus long sleeves, plus my broad shoulders that leaves so little room. For a casual dress, I might go ahead and switch it. One day while…[Read more]

meleliza replied to the topic What size "scraps" do you keep? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I think it depends on what you like to sew. I had to start getting pretty strict about what I would keep. I have some basic rules – one box for scraps and once it’s full I have to get rid of stuff. I toss teeny pieces as I cut to avoid temptation. Also,I keep a few bins for remnants, which are at least 1/2 yd plus scraps or something. Remnants are…[Read more]
