Liesl Gibson replied to the topic How to finish neck collar on Yanaka jacket in the forum liesl + co: yanaka jacket 2 weeks ago
Hi Leah, I’m not clear which part of the instructions or illustrations are not clear. The illustrations show each step of the jacket as it is being constructed. The illustrations were made using photos of the jacket as I sewed it. All components are included exactly as they are in the pattern. I’m more than happy to help, to add photos, to do a…[Read more]

I’m so glad you like them! They’re one of my favorites as well.
When you say culotte length, do you mean longer shorts (someplace above the knee) or are you envisioning something more like a split skirt that’s below the knee? For this pattern we deliberately changed the shape of the rise and the inseam to get a really good shorts shape, so I’m…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Sizing – waist to hip distance in the forum liesl + co: garibaldi a-line skirt 2 months ago
hello, and thanks for your patience during my travels! The hip to waist distance on our patterns is more like 8″, but it really depends on the height of the waist on each individual pattern. The Garibaldi Skirt is an A-line, so it flares more as it lengthens. A lot will depend on your fabric, too, so I would suggest doing a paper fitting of the…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Sticking pattern together in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 2 months ago
Hi Jackie,
Thanks for your patience during my travels. The patterns should be assembled according to the grid, so you’re matching the grid lines and trimming off the extra white paper. The letters in the circles indicate which corners go together to make it easy to identify which pages should be attached to each other. I hope that helps!
Here’s…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Buttons? in the forum liesl + co: brunswick jacket 3 months ago
Hello! You can absolutely extend the front edge by 1/2″ on either side to make a 1″ button placket. You could also extend the collar by the same amount to get the same look on the lapels, but if you’re wearing the collar up it’s not strictly necessary. I’d love to see how it turns out!

I’m glad you like it! And yes, it’s probably a good idea to clip the side seams at the underarm a bit to help them lie flat. It will depend on your fabric, of course, but in general it will help. Thanks for asking!

Uff, I feel your pain! It’s really difficult to visualize your questions without a photo–can you possibly upload one to help me? We have several tutorials that I think can help, like this one: https://oliverands.com/community/blog/2018/08/how-to-raise-or-lower-a-dart.html
Yes, the two size blocks are different, but that doesn’t mean you can’t…[Read more]

Also, thank for calling my attention to the missing snap tape on the envelope. In the 18-ish years that the pattern has been out no one has mentioned it. I’ll make sure we fix that.

Hello, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the pattern! Honestly, I didn’t know that snap tape came with the snaps different widths apart! I’ve only seen and used one type. Another option would be to use individual snaps. Maybe that would work better in this instance?

I think they could work well together, yes! The Brunswick has very simple lines and could be a great layering piece, especially if you coordinate the colors or the fabric. I hope you’ll show us!

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Sinatra Top/Dress in the forum liesl + co: sintra halter top + dress 8 months ago
Hello! The Sintra top/dress is unlined, so the pattern and instructions don’t include lining instructions. I would suggest interlining it if you’re adding a lining. With regard to piece 6, there are two size groupings in order to read the details more easily, so you only need to find the piece that includes your size. I hope that helps!

Hello, and I don’t know what happened to my original reply! Very sorry for the delay. Yes, I think you can absolutely do it this way. The collar won’t lay quite the same, but it’s a shortcut that’s often used. Would love to see how it turns out!

I think it would work! I haven’t tried it personally, and you might have to play with the waistband length to get the right fit, but it should work, yes.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Oh no! Camp shirt/Dress – wrong fabric?? in the forum liesl + co: camp shirt + dress 1 year ago
No, you can still make it! The shirt won’t have the same drape as the original pattern, so it may be a little more oversized in appearance. But just refer to the finished measurements on the pattern and that will give you a better sense for how it will fit when it’s finished. I hope that helps!

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Eliminating center bodice bust dart on Rush Hour dress in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 1 year ago
Hello! The Dior dart on that style is quite short, so it could probably be moved in a variety of ways, but it also depends on how much “take-up” is in the dart (your bust size, the size you’re sewing, etc.). You could potentially ease the dart into the princess seam or move the princess seam slightly forward to absorb it. It may take a little…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Waistband not fitting in the forum liesl + co: garibaldi a-line skirt 1 year ago
Hi ladies,
I assure you the waistband is the correct length–I’ve just checked it again. It’s slightly shorter than the waistband of the skirt because the skirt fabric gets eased into the waistband as you sew it. You might be experiencing problems because the skirt waist itself stretches a bit as you’re working with the fabric. If you’re having a…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Key Considerations for Altering a Yanaka Traditional Tattoo for a Full Bicep in the forum groip1 1 year ago
Hello! With the shoulder seam and the two gusset seams you’ll have plenty of places to add width, yes. I would suggest opening the seams on your muslin to see where the jacket “wants” to add space in order to determine the best spot. I hope that helps!
