Enjoy sewing your shirt Ellen. I think a smart shirt is lovely on a fellow (and I love sewing them too).
Don’t panic, re the Tea Party dress, Tamara. Trixie is 8 months old and I can just squeeze her into the 0-3 month if she is wearing a disposable.
I finished a vintage coat for Lidia and now I am on to one for Elsa. 1960’s I am guessing, by…[Read more]

Has anybody made this? I usually make an 8 plus 3/4 in FBA in the woven patterns. Could I get away with a straight 8 in a knit?

Ellen, just think how easy it will be to ease things — sleeves, hems — with all those long seams. A nice break from hemming size 0-3m sleeves with tweezers 🙂
I am prancy with excitement over the Gallery tunic and am working on the FBA while watching an interesting documentary by Ric Burns (who knew there were two of them!) about NY.

Is that what that stitching is? Our accountant had a smart new suit on and I noticed it.

Oh, ok. Well, a pick stitch is basically a backstitch that has lots of space between each stitch–it travels on the back side so you have long floats. (If that sounds like I’m speaking Martian, sorry.) I’ll definitely do a tutorial soon.
The vest looks great! Happy graduation!

Oh, I’d love to teach you how to do this and I’ve always meant to do a tutorial for it! Let me see if we can find time to do it in the next couple of weeks, ok? Or is that too late? I think I recall an article in Threads magazine years ago about it if you need it sooner. They were pick stitching a back zipper on a dress and adding beads to the…[Read more]

Can you seam some scrap fabric and have her hold/rub it against her skin, maybe around the neck where the seams might be thickest? See which version feels nicest for her?

I made a Carousel dress for Liddy (11),today.
I used sand coloured velvet/uncut cord (not sure what it is) with red topstitching. It has quite a medieval feel to it.

@miss_sonja
So basically, you lay your hem gauge on the wrong side of the fabric and pull the raw edge to the inch mark you want. Like in the second picture (don’t know why they reversed), I pulled it taut to the 5/8″ and ironed. You would do that to your whole piece you are hemming, then in the second picture I pulled it taut to the 1 1/2″…[Read more] -
