I’m sewing a sundress with a straight rectangle front and shirred back. I want to try 1″ shoulder straps that start in the center front, sewing them overlapped at the center, in a v, on the wrong side of the center front bodice that is interfaced. They will go over the shoulders and tie at the sides in the back about 3″ from the center on each…[Read more]

Kim started the topic Destash fabric and yarn sale this weekend in the forum off topic 10 years ago
In an earlier post someone wrote about a big sale of sewing and knitting items in their city. If anyone lives in New England there is a destash fabric and yarn sale, this weekend, at White River Yarns in White River Junction, VT. The Amtrak train station is across the street from the sale. http://www.whiteriveryarns.com/

I noticed after I opened a package of hand sewing needles, that I purchased at Joann’s, they are covered in something that looks like shiny metal but feels like plastic. I’m trying to find regular hand sewing needles. Can anyone suggest a brand name and where I can find these needles? They said at Joann’s that I can buy a pin cushion that will…[Read more]

Sarvi I love the Addi Turbo circular needles for hats. I use wooden 4 double pointed needles too to finish all the tops. I always feel better using wood but I think the Addi Turbo needles are easier on my hands. I would encourage anyone beginning to knit to start with hats. Once you get the basic pattern they knit up fast and you can make all…[Read more]

I like to knit in addition to sewing. I started knitting again 6 years ago when my daughter was expecting. I used the book Itty Bitty Hats by Susan B. Anderson with the suggested Addi Turbo circular needles. I knit all of the kids winter hats now using a modified pattern. I just started a thrum baby hat and a toddler sweater. I like to listen to…[Read more]

This year, starting with this month, I am making a red cotton velveteen cape from LTTS and a white onstage tutu for my 5 year old granddaughter. For my 3 year old grandson a wolf hat using the LTTS hat pattern and faux wolf fur. For the two toddler granddaughters white onstage tutus.

Thank you, I just read when this happens to measure the child’s back width and then the back pattern piece, so I’m going to piece the pattern pieces together and measure before I begin.

I cut out a size 4, with added length, for my granddaughter in October and put it aside waiting for back ordered contrasting fabric. My granddaughter grew in the meantime. The finished chest of the size 4 is 25. Her chest measures 23.5. Will she have enough room to move if I go ahead and sew it?

Thank you for sharing with me how to sew the lace on. I’m sewing four pair of Christmas pajamas for my grandchildren for the Polar Express train ride this weekend. I wanted to make the girls a little more feminine without using the ruffle. I thought the ruffle included in the pattern might be too much around the neck for the two babies. I went to…[Read more]

I love the lace, on the pink pajamas on Flickr, by Marlene. I would like to try this and I’m curious if the lace will curl up when it is washed? If so would I hand stitch the outside edge of the lace?
