Thanks for sharing your adventure. I am glad you have a pair that fits now. My daughter has requested some of these so I shall make sure I am extra diligent with the markings and the fittings.

I just finished an icecream for my younger daughter out of the left over fabric from her much older sister’s bistro at their request. I remembered to check the measurements and alter the pattern as she is tall and slim but never thought to hold the fabric up to her. She has a very different coloring to her sister and the pale color makes her look…[Read more]

Well I decided to remove the front darts as she has a slightly protruding abdomen that it looked like the dress was getting caught up on so to speak. This changed the bust area and it is no longer baggy but now is nice. The hip area has the room it needs and the back is no longer looking so baggy. I am taking a smidgen out of the center back and…[Read more]

Kerrilyn replied to the topic Dart Detail- How would I re-create this? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I am no expert but this is what I would do: photo attached. Solid is cutting line. Dotted is seeing line. Gather between the dots.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Deb. I have been at a loss as to where to start. I won’t get a chance to work on it until next week now but I will report back.
Should I remove the body/waist darts first?

I went with a size 2 as per my daughters bust measurements (and didn’t make a muslin) but the fit is too big. The neck and arms are good. The bust isn’t nor is the mid back, they are too big in relation to the waist. She is thicker waisted. The waist sits firm but not tight at all. Hips are fine. How should I redeem the dress as she does really…[Read more]

I agree, not the Coco. The school photo is much better looking pattern than the Coco.
Not exactly the brief but you could have a look at:
Burda 7145, it has the high collar but the inseam pockets are horizontal and it uses a knit(side bodice and sleeves) plus a woven (central bodice and skirt)
But could you adapt the Bistro? 😉 You could do…[Read more]

Thanks all for taking the time to reply, it helped me to sort through the couple of dress patterns I do own. Roundtheworldgirl thank you for ranking the ones you have sewn, that was useful. I am leaning towards the Icecream as I have that pattern coming in the mail but I do think the Family Reunion (which I would like to own) would look good in a…[Read more]

Kerrilyn replied to the topic Bust darts in the forum liesl + co: bistro dress 9 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to reply, roundtheworldgirl. Yes I did this. I ended up removing them and redoing, making them slightly longer and curving them slightly so they were narrower at the point. They sit much nicer now, well one always did.
Now to decide whether to line or not!

Mm my bust darts aren’t looking too good. I did move them on the pattern to line up with the bust apex and the body/ waist ones look fine. But the under arm one ends funny and doesn’t sit nice. Like a dimple. I had to shorten this one about an inch otherwise it would have ended right at the bust apex/ nipple and definitely would not have been a…[Read more]

Thanks Nicole and Lightning McStitch for your suggestions. And for the tips regarding Lycra. The sun and wet clothes seem to be a killer for Lycra.

Thanks for the tip about the scissors and time Robin.
Thanks for that suggest Heidi I had overlooked that one. But I am not fussed on knit sewing. Well to be more honest it is probably the Lycra part that I find frustrating. Anything I have with Lycra in doesn’t seem to last long because Lycra tends to deteriorate fast, or is it not up to out…[Read more]

I am yet to make a dress from oliver+s for my girl(6yo). So which dresses are quick to make and which take longer? How would you rank the dresses you have made for speed?
And secondly do you have a favorite dress and why?
Thanks
