I’m calling for clarification on that one @todd …
“wretch” (noun) a poor, miserable person.
“retch” (verb) to gag or vomit
“wrench” (verb) to twist and pull
I’m guessing, from context, you were going for wrench… Poetic license bring what it is, and this being a limerick thread on a sewing forum, you can make up any word/meaning you like of…[Read more] -

My daughter will only wear pink
With tulle and sequins I think
I’ve tried purple And red

All other colours, they stink!”This denim it just will not stretch

I just want to sit down and sew!
But lately I’ve been on the go
‘Cause we’re building a house
And I just saw a mouseBy the time the machine’s out there’ll be snow
(Apologies @ock-du-spock if this is prophetic…)

I had an intersting and rather scary journey home from spending the weekend in the city with my daughter who is away at school.
I was travelling home with the two younger children and the car started wobbling like crazy!
I managed to wobble into a town which is on the way home and discovered that my front passenger side wheel was hanging on by…[Read more]

Oooh that sounds lovely Nicole @motherof5!
I just finished a denim jacket each for my two girls. We’re all thrilled (yes even the baby!)
I am just finishing some black jeans for myself – waistband topstitching and hems to go.
I took a basket of half mades to Perth with me and didn’t get much done so I am catching up.

@cammipatterson welcome! So glad you introduced yourself. It is great to read a bit about everyone and their story.
Please show us the metro t shirt dresses when you’ve made them so we can all celebrate your efforts. It is nice to have a visual record for future reference too.
Looking forward to reading about what you are sewing.

The season for sewing has changed
My skirts and I are estranged
But my jackets and coats
Are garnering votes
Time for clothing, to be, exchanged.I just want to sit down and sew!

I finished my turn on the #sewingrota on a high with some gorgeous back jeans for me!
Three pairs of jeans, a denim shirt and four tee’s were a much needed injection of clothing in my wardrobe. Now I am on to formal sewing, Zara’s first. Some gorgeous Gatsby inspired sequinned tulle.

Watch your sleeve cap, it may need a little pinched from it, it is easy to do after sewing.
I ave found (with a longer tee/tee dress) you can get some odd things happen at the shoulder due to the extra weight of the extra fabric. -

Hi @cammipatterson what a great starting project!
I haven’t made an above the knee t shirt dress but I have used the metro pattern to make a t shirt maxi dress for my teenage daughter.
What I did was measure where she wanted her dress to finish and then I made the adjustment to the pattern by adding the amount of length and cutting through the…[Read more]

Agreed! I have to go back and search for that sailboat top… But yes you certainly are correct, who knew that pockets would be perfect to smock on? Gathering gives the clue.
And of course there are more than just the counterchange and geometric/ English smocking.
I haven’t yet tried using ribbon but want to one day.

@sewgirl23 if you look at the line of the style of garment, it will give you an indication of where the smocking can go. I have used smocking on the carousel dress, the school photo dress and the school days jacket, not to mention the croquet dress.
For a motif the carousel dress would be perfect. You could also do a picture smocked panel and…[Read more]

@sewgirl23
I think the 2+2 would be gorgeous. Just under the tie, instead of the tab.
ASM Blue did a gorgeous Ice Cream blouse. I would use gingham, so I could stitch the squares, rather then pleat.I still love French knots.
I think simple smocking looks cleaner and more modern.
