Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoHey all, I just sewed my first entredeux and was SHOCKED at how easy it was! I’ll do a little tutorial for the Butterfly Dress sew-along. I was thinking I’d do a little pintucking tutorial, too, using a double needle and a pintucking foot. All these new (to me) techniques! Very fun, and so much simpler than I expected.

I think that if you swap the button/snaps to the back and add tucks from the shoulders down to about level with the bottom of the armhole and also add a piped peter pan collar you could have an heirloom version of a boy layette shirt. Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoI would love powder blue linen with white, piped with navy.
My son (nearly 18) wore frilly tartan shirts with navy trousers, which is possibly dated now but I do think a check or a tartan ‘mans’ up a baby outfit.

I’m so inexperienced at sewing for boys! Give me baby girl and I’m golden but I’m still learning to get my creative juices flowing for little boy things! Hopefully this nephew will help things along 😉

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoHi there, I’m very new to embroidery and heirloom sewing. At the moment I’m trying to do my first piece of pleated smocking, does anyone know of any good video tutorials on simple smocking stitches for beginners… I’ve had no luck with YouTube??

I don’t know about any video tutorials but I do know that if you pick up a copy of the A-Z of Smocking, you can’t go wrong! I also know that if you live in the US, a SAGA chapter might also help. I’m in Australia but have been a SAGA member and they have online courses etc – but first things first, you need to know some little ins and outs of…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoI would say that you wouldn’t actually fold the fabric as per you would ordinarily to get the result because the tucks moght end up a bit off. Would trace the pattern on the fold but not cut it on the fold in order to get the full piece and then work from there to determine where to put my tucks.
This is just how I would do it.

What? You are kidding right? They are so simple you are right but you know I thought the same when I first tried them. They are such pretty techniques. I am very glad there are tutorials coming about them all. But, I thought the butterfly was a top?
Ack, yes, the Butterfly Top! No idea why I said dress. In any case, I love these techniques.
