Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Raising Neckline in the forum liesl + co: geneva v-neck blouse 2 years ago
You can definitely raise the neckline if you want. In terms of other alterations, it all depends on how the blouse fits you from the start. Raising the neckline won’t affect the overall fit.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Yardage needed for View B cut on bias? in the forum liesl + co: garibaldi a-line skirt 2 years ago
Hi Mimi,
The best way to check is to do a mock layout with your pattern pieces. Bias usually takes more fabric than straight grain, so it’s always best to check before you buy the fabric. I hope that helps!

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic sizes across patterns – yanaka jacket / easton cowl neck tee in the forum liesl + co: easton cowl-neck tee 2 years ago
It’s tricky to pick a size for a knit tee based on the fit of a woven jacket. I’d suggest that you might be happiest by comparing the measurements of a tee you already own and like–that way you’ll be more assured to get a fit that makes you happy.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Terrace–fabric and flattery in the forum liesl + co: terrace dress 2 years ago
The Terrace is a loose fitting dress, and in general I would say that drapey fabrics are most suitable for it. Linen and rayon are great options. Lawn would work although it’s not very drapey. It’s lightweight enough to be ok. Broadcloth would probably be a bit heavy, I think.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Building Block Dress Placket in the forum oliver + s: building block dress 2 years ago
I’ve sewn that placket in micro cord and didn’t find it to be bulky at all, but if you’re concerned you could always choose a contrast lightweight fabric. Either one should be fine!

That’s entirely your call! I think it’s nice to have something interesting at front and back but you get to be the designer here…

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Ruffle on top? in the forum oliver + s: after-school 2 years ago
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it, but I can’t remember where it was. Here’s a tutorial for adding piping. Adding a ruffle would be much easier, but a similar process. And very cute! I hope you’ll show us if you make it.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Question about the back neck of Geneva Blouse in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 3 years ago
It’s a more open neck, so it will also be more open in the back, yes! Glad to hear that you like it.

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Looking for baby/childrens pattern size chart in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 3 years ago
Bonnie, you can find the size chart on the page of the pattern you are interested in. About halfway down the page there is a series of tabs. One says “size chart”. Click on that and you’ll see the size chart for that particular pattern.
Since mention a baby size chart, I think you might be thinking about our Lullaby Layette pattern. You can find…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Pattern instructions conflict with drawing? in the forum liesl + co: cappuccino dress + tunic 3 years ago
Sarah, I looked into this and you are right. That’s a minor error in the instructions that was corrected in the second version of the pattern which was issued many years ago. It looks like you’re working from the first version which contained that error. The current version available (version 3) has the language has you suggestion.

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Men's All Day Shirt Buttonhole Placket in the forum liesl + co: all day shirt 3 years ago
View B uses a separate placket piece which is included with the pattern. View A is made using the self-fold method. So you can use either approach with this pattern.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic I’ve just started my first Liesl pattern, the Montauk Trouser in the forum liesl + co: montauk trousers 3 years ago
I’m sorry to hear the waistband isn’t fitting correctly! It could be that you used different seam allowances for the trouser construction, or maybe your fabric is stretchy? How much of a difference is there? If it’s a small difference you can certainly ease in the excess fabric.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Geneva shirt neck line issues in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 3 years ago
Hello! The first photo doesn’t look puckered at all! The second photo is difficult to tell. The puckers may be because of the drapey fabric and they may steam out or soften with wear. And the addition of the sleeves might also help to add a bit of weight to balance out the draping. It could be that you stretched a bit too much, but it may not be…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic I’ve just started my first Liesl pattern, the Montauk Trouser in the forum liesl + co: montauk trousers 3 years ago
I just finished another pair in linen and I’m really happy with the result. One piece of advice I’d offer for linen trousers is that you press the rise seam allowances to one side and edgestitch the rise seam to strengthen it and to prevent “grinning” when the weave opens up because of stress on the seam. Does that makes sense? I can post a photo…[Read more]

The Swingset Skirt has been really popular because it’s quite full and can also be reversible… That might be a good place to start?
