Waistband not fitting

    Hi Liesl,

I’m making the Garibaldi Skirt in size 12 with pockets and waistband. I’m having trouble fitting the waistband to the skirt. The notches don’t line up and the band appears to be approx 1 1/2 inches too short. I only printed the size 12. I even used the patterns to try and line up in case it was a cutting or sewing error.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Mandy

Thanks for your patience while I’ve been out on medical leave. Hmm, can you posts photos so we can try to troubleshoot for you? Which view are you sewing: View A with the pockets and waistband?

I had the same issue as Mandy with size 12, view A. Waistband was 1.5 inches too short.

I’m checking the pattern and it measures exactly the same as the skirt waist. Could it be that you cut the wrong size facing? Or maybe the fabric stretched? The facing measures exactly the same as the waist for all the sizes…

I recently purchased this pattern and have the same issue. The waistband is too short and the markings do not line up.

I can easily adjust the waistband to fit, but at this point the problem should be corrected. Otherwise the pattern is well explained and fitting.

    Hi ladies,

I assure you the waistband is the correct length–I’ve just checked it again. It’s slightly shorter than the waistband of the skirt because the skirt fabric gets eased into the waistband as you sew it. You might be experiencing problems because the skirt waist itself stretches a bit as you’re working with the fabric. If you’re having a problem with it I would suggest adding a basting stitch just inside the seamline (a little less that 1/2″ from the edge) and use it as an ease stitch to help cinch the skirt waist to fit the waistband. The fit of the skirt to the waistband should be smooth when it’s finished, but you may need to “help” it a bit to ease into the waistband fabric with the basting stitch. I hope that helps!
