I have just received a phone call from my adult nephew who is currently in Canada on a uni exchange for a semester. He is actually thinking of transferring for a further semester should his exchange not be able to be extended. This is a good sign. Although he says he misses elements of home, like some foods. Being an athletic chap, he gets to…[Read more]

I spend a few minutes finding out more of this pattern you are using Heidi. It sounds very interesting and looks like a nice dress to sew. Will you show us a pic when you are done?
I thought about heading back into the sewing room this evening but decided on other things. It was just aswell as the evening would have been (pleasantly) interrupted.

@juliamom2009 janice that cape is a monster size version of the messy kid bib from Little Things To Sew, worn backwards. Because the fastening is off set to one side it shouldn’t be too visible from the front.
Hope that helps as an idea. -

Ok the hot weather has hit and sifting through the baby’s nightwear, I have discovered she requires a more appropriate size of bodysuit. 3-6 months (or rtw 00) still fits but they are snug. So it is bodysuit time. I will trace the 6-12 and 12-18 month sizes together when she is napping so I don’t have to go back and trace again for a wee…[Read more]

My children are on the small side so take my two cents with a grain of salt!
My solid 14 month old is wearing the size 6-12 months with one fold of the sleeves.
Here is the 12-18 month on my older daughter, similar age https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/4815131108/in/album-72157625184981969/
and still wearing it here…[Read more]

I made my son the size 8 when he was 8 and I found that it was roomy for him and on the big side but I think this is designed with layering in mind. It did him for two seasons (just). It all depends on if he has a huge growth spurt (and often they grow in different areas at different times). It can be difficult to tell.
I would make the 2T and…[Read more]

Do you think we could call it an “ugly to me” challenge? After all beauty is very definitely in the eye of the beholder and what if like you say, you think its rotten but everyone else says it fabulous – or – (shock horror) it’s the opposite😱😱?
What about a “colour I wouldn’t choose normally” challenge? For me it would be something like green or…[Read more]

Not a giant recipe, but I would imagine it could be usefully doubled and made a few times — might be easier on your kitchen/baking tools too.

I have a question, how do we define the criteria that would determine a fabric to be ugly?
And I like what nzsewist suggested regarding the possibility of a plaid/ check challenge.

Wow @needlewoman you will be busy.
I finished my shirt but I am unhappy with the collar, completely my fault, I should have muslined just the collar.
In a nutshell, I swopped the collar and made it too long and the collar stand ate it! I have not tried it on yet… too nervous. I hope it looks okay, I really want to wear it to my son’s party.

I made my daughter some yoga pants with a ribbing waist and I did have to go back and add elastic
I unpicked a wee bit of the seam, threaded it through and then hand sewed it up again. -
