@McNeill I would be inclined to do it that way. And then you would have a nice fit in the shoulders and bust area. If you were to do the 12 all over it might look wrong.
I would grade out to a 12 once you get to the hip. Because your measurements just go up a size or so it would be simple rather than to try and reduce it in the bust and waist to…[Read more]

Slowly making my way through b5616. Really a very straight forward sew, just I decided to distress along the way and very nearly ripped the fabric. Of course it has to have pink topstitching!
Have to find out about the errata if any for afterschool pants as the middle part is a bit long. I think I remember it being mentioned. Never made this size…[Read more]

Thankyou for your kind words @motherof5, you know what these farmers are like, tough to rein in when they need to stay put. It would have been the perfect opportunity to spring clean the office! Oh well, at least he is allowed to work but heavy lifting is still off limits so we have a young guy working with us until the end of seeding. He has been…[Read more]

I hope Murray continues to mend, poor chap, he must be so frustrated just over seeing the workmen.
So sad to hear Prince has died. I have several of his songs in my running playlist, I got quite a lump in my throat working out today. 🙁

I have started my sons blazer and I am grateful for being sleep deprived/fearless/don’t care as there are next to no instructions.
My fabric is a nice wool/poly mix, but not expensive so if it is a cluster it can be donated to the local Am-Dram group.
I am predicting this will be at least a two week sew.

If you want really pointy ears, I wonder if a scrap of boning would work?
I sewed it in cotton velvet and my ears were a bit floppy (but oh so cute)

Much the same as @markjebobarrhotmail-com but it was a wedding dress and the bride was pregnant and her boobs were too big on the day!
I had to hand sew the dress to her bra.It was a pretty embroidered voile and was all split by the end of the night.
My favourite sew was a Peacoat for my son, it was a big sew but not hard, just a lot of steps…[Read more]

I am not sure what it’s correct name is but I use this stitch, not too tight with the tension.
A small stitch to the tube (or the dress) and then a longer one to the other, but don’t pull too tight!
Good luck!

@dubhels2003 I haven’t yet but want to grab the chance to blog them. It is so difficult to get modelled photos of Imogen’s newly sewn things these days, that it basically has to be chances taken during visits, long weekends and holidays.
I have just cut out a view b of Butterick 5616 in size 16. We are using light blue denim and even though the…[Read more]

Oh yes that hood is a good one!
Today I made three pairs of True bias Hudson pants in size 10 (adult sizes) in grey and black and with two inches added to fit my 5 foot 7inch 13 year old. I also made a start on two pairs of parachute pants, also grey and black in size 18-24 months.

You could definitely interface one or both ear pieces to make them stiffer. Go for it.

@enbee I have to be fast with my toddler. She can be easy going at times and at other times she is busy figuring out how to scale the safety fence, a chair, or me! This morning though, she was singing to herself in her part of the sewing room so I managed to get a bit done. Other than that my sewing is generally reserved for sleep times. At the…[Read more]

I recently swore like a sailor while seeing a hoodie for the kid. The hood and shoulder were one pattern piece and required a ninety degree pivot at one point. Yet there were no pattern markings at all and determining where that pivot point was, and getting it all to work without puckers was very trying indeed.
Not s hard thing to do if the…[Read more] - Load More
