@cybele727 – I’m curious – are you happy with the way the fabric shop cut it? Because I cut large scale prints that way as well….so I’m wondering if that was a good thing to you or a bad thing…

Interfacing usually works well for me when it comes to hemming. You might need to adjust the tension on your machine for the double needle, too. I usually have to crank up the upper tension by quite a bit to balance things out. Good luck!

It will be easier I you sew a basting stitch along the seam allowance and the clip the seam allowance almost to the basting stitches before turning then to the inside.
I’m sure I’ve seen other colour velcro at Spotlight in Aus, but off white or black is most common.
Have fun with it, it’s a gorgeous pattern. -

I think that’s what Cindy did when she first enlarged it, but then found that the enlarged top section meant the straps started too low down and the bag was unbalanced.
I can’t recall if that was a discussion on here or on Siestas and Sewing blog -
Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Would you resize the LTTS back pack up? in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 10 years ago
I would suggest a really easy route for this. If you want to enlarge it, be sure the seam allowances are drawn into the pattern piece. Then enlarge all the pieces the same percentage and draw new cut lines from the seam lines. That way everything will be enlarged so it all still fits together, but since the seam allowances will also increase you…[Read more]

Ok, thanks everyone! I may go the @sarvi route and kind of wing it a bit – I love the added pockets that Sharon did. School starts in 3 weeks….need to get cracking!

Yes that’s right! So the lunchbox tee in fleece would be considered a jumper or pullover (in your case a sweater) and the music box jumper is what we would consider as a pinafore.

My love of stripes and cheap fabric has led me to this problem a couple of times.
With the fabric wet you may be able to realign it so that the selvedges meet and the stripes are vertical, or maybe not.
I would cut so that the striped pattern is true and figure that a small degree off straight grain is workable. -

Good memory Sarvi.
Yes, that was me and it was so frustrating. I ended up cutting the body to grain and cutting the cuff to the pattern but then interfacing the whole cuff so it was a bit more stable.

Apologies for jumping in, but I did this myself somewhat recently and after agonizing over it quite a bit I realized I was making something very simple unnecessarily complicated. I took her school folders and set them on a piece of freezer paper and drew a rectangle with rounded corners around them, eyeballing a bit extra room. I made the…[Read more]

I haven’t encountered this myself, but I remember Nicole making something .. I think it was a shirt for Hugo? where it was printed off grain and it was super annoying. Can you tug/steam it into shape a bit? I’m not sure how much you could ameliorate it before the animals looked really skewed.
