What are you sewing now?

Well the long awaited croquet dress in done down to the last stitch on the button loop. I was fighting with madame de feline today over my chair and threatened to teach her to sew so she could have permission to sit on it. Eventually though I could just get down to business provided I sat and didn’t get up again or else!
Sharon I wish I still had cooler weather, I’m sitting under the air conditioner already!
So tomorrow I have the bijoux badminton skirt to do aswell as a family reunion top and a 2+2 top enlarged. I mayn’t get them all done tomorrow but I shall have a good crack at it as I need to do some things for N and seeing as I don’t have enough white stella for two fronts and backs, the t-shirts will have to wait a while. He does need shorts and a few more shirts for summer so will cut them out at least this week.

12 years ago LINKMaggie @MaggieI finished two hoods from LTTS. I made them out of fleece. It was a bit bulky at the ears, but not too bad. One is for my newborn niece and one for my 5 year-old.
I just taped up my digital pattern for the sleepover pajamas. Now if only my flannel would arrive today I could get started.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiIt’s frustrating waiting for fabric or patterns isn’t it Maggie?
I finished another hula hoop skirt (in yellow and orange) in size 2T. These skirts are very quick, 2hrs or less including cutting and putting in the elastic. this pattern may take over from my favourite self drafted go to skirt. I have gotten so much use out of the last two skirt patterns, badminton and hula hoop, from Oliver and S!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh guess what?! I found an almost finished pair of sketchbook shorts! Yay! just the cuffs and fixing the elastic and they are good to go.
12 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI just finished sweet pea’s jumper now onto cleaning house. Tonight I have two pairs of much needed Afterschool pants to make. Next I am side track to start on costumes for the kids. Sweet pea decided to be Perwinckle from Tinker bell’s new movie so I have I have to go to the fabric store buy fabric and supplies. I don’t think I will ever be finished!

12 years ago LINKTonight I’m wrapping up my second Playdate “wearable muslin.” I am so glad I didn’t give up; the pattern was much easier to sew the second time around and I love the (almost) finished product. I’m getting excited to actually translate it into a fancy Christmas dress. Though I will probably take a mini-break from the pattern. DD1 has asked me to make her a red skirt, and as I’ve only recently been able to get her to wear skirts (she has been dresses-only), I want to comply quickly. I plan a red corduroy Sunday Brunch and probably a matching one for little sister.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI made another badminton skirt yesterday and also got half way through a Family Reunion top in Cape Ann mums which I’m not really happy with the askew placement of the print but it looks alright otherwise. I’ll finish that off today and maybe get to the 2+2 top and make a skirt or pair of shorts of something to team with both.
I have fabric coming out of my ears and am itching to get the stash down so as to what is next, I have to check out the school shorts situation and maybe do a pair or two as school goes back Tuesday. Maybe some short leggings to go under the mulitudes of Music class skirts I made at the beginning of the year wouldn’t go astray – just so they are used!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI have just ruffled the bottom tier of my latest pettiskirt in black and red. It was approximately 1200″ around about 33 feet of fabric ruffled into 16 feet! Now that my ruffler is working properly I had better do the other bottom tier!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitThe family Reunion top is complete to button stage and I can do them while waiting piano lessons to finish this week. I think I’ll be making more of these as I tried it on miss 10 and she was quite impressed and said she had a bit of room. The 2+2 needs some more research done on the sleeve as that she told me was a little teeny tiny bit tight. So I will widen it just a little to give her more upper arm room. It still looks good though and I hope she’ll still wear it while she can.
Next on the list is cutting out the great piles of fabric I have sitting on my table under their respecitve patterns. I gave the kids the option of choosing and boy did they take me up on the offer! Still it will 1, keep me busy sewing probably til Christmas, 2, they will wear the things I make them because they chose and they won’t have any other choice and 3, it’ll make space in this bulging cupboard of mine – maybe we will get the doors on after all!
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5What am I sewing?
More flippin’ polo tops!
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love Heidijustsewit – I liked the bit about the doors!
Nicole – you made me laugh, with that comment.
I sewed another hula hoop skirt last night (when I realised that my ruffler’s all set up and I can take it off and it won’t change!), this time in yellow and aqua/pink/yellow. Seriously liking this pattern, I might have to make another one today!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitThe pile is slowly reducing to a slowly rising pile of cut out things. 3 hours in and I have cut out 4 pairs of sketchbook shorts size 10 AND down ten rounds with Mario (and the kids). I promised I’d play as they were asking so nicely but I said only if I can still cut things out so it is a deal.
Is it a quick sew pattern for the polos you are using Nicole?
with love Heidi, it is a worrying situation when you see the fabric ready to fall out and you have no doors to hold them all in. It would be even more worrying to see the fabric actually fall out upon sliding the doors open – this is the current scenario that is replaying in my mind. Fortunately because we have broken panels that need replacing (and we didn’t get there last trip) it will certainly give me the chance to not let it play out in reality. But I am glad I described it in a way that you could visually see what I meant!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI can definetly visulise all the fabric falling out of the cupboard/bursting the doors off, BANG. Mainly because mine is in a bookshelf and looks like it’s not going to fit much longer. And this as after I realised I have sewn 61 Oliver and S items in the last year plus a fair amount of other stuff too!!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh – My – GOODNESS! 61! I think I have done the most sewing just last week than I have all year since March! And I can relate with the bookshelf dilemma as my fabric was housed in one large bookshelf up until April this year and it looked like a lawn of couch grass – spread everywhere and not slowing down anytime soon! When hubby is harvesting I will go through this room from top to bottom and get it looking beautiful as I have to try and fit a sofa bed in here somehow for guests. I’ll make it fit somehow.
I have a day off tomorrow (yay! no archiving other people’s bad filing for a whole day!) and I will use it to sew and cut out and redo all six backs of the sketchbook shorts I cut out because I forgot about adding the seam allowance (good on me!). Hopefully I won’t make anymore errors!
12 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchI’ve just finished off a Family Reunion dress in pink. The most girly thing I’ve sewn to date and I’m still a little undecided about it… Anyway a question for those who know these things:
I’m going to put a ribbon bow on the front tab and I read Nicole once mention cutting ribbon with a hot knife. Does this just mean a knife that’s been heated, or is a “hot knife” some fancy sewing tool. How would one heat a normal knife sufficient to cut/melt the ribbon yet still hold it in your hand?!
Any tips? I want it to be as washing machine proof as possible.
