Shirts made ! On to Sketchbook pants !
14 years ago LINKsewinginthecity @sewinginthecityI just finished my first bubble dress, and am so excited I had to write about it!! After I put the buttons on I’ll post a pic on flicker. I found it easy to put together, easier than the ice cream dress. Am I dreaming or did someone once write a post about how to put it together without any hand sewing?
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I am looking forward to seeing it s i t c , I did not hand sew mine, as it was for full on play. I pinned the bodice lining on the inside and slowly topstitched from the top. ( but handsewing would give you a much neater inside finish)
Finished the Sketchbook pants and I am currently sewing a little Sailboat top for Little One out of some scraps from Son&Heirs nemesis shirt, maybe that dotty print is meant to be wonky?????
Hopefully I can get stuck into Little Ones Icecream dress next.
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Icecream dress finished and posted so that is one wedding outfit made. The twins are having a birthday soon and they are so impressed with Son&Heirs Sketchbook pants that they have requested a pair each in denim, a white Music class blouse and a Icecream dress in a ditzy print to pop over the top ! Should look cute, we will see how we go !
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Well, I finished the Puppet show tunic and I am pleased, I probably spent more time hand sewing than machine sewing but I really did not want stitching to show. In the end I used sew in poppers instead of buttons because the colour of the silk was so vibrant none of my buttons looked right. Small One loves it ,and thats what matters!
Hopefully, I can get some cutting out done tonight as I have caught up and have nothing to sew ( and that means mending!!!!)
What are you sewing?
14 years ago LINKToyota888 @Toyota888Oh I have been doing a lot of mending π and covering a piano stool! I still haven’t put photos on Flikr of the white linen “Village Frock” I finished a few weeks ago – the only non O&S pattern I have ever bought (well, 20c from op shop not included!). It is pretty fabulous in the looks dept but the construction methods are not so great – some of my mending has been on that one as the underarms seem to rip every time I put it on the little one!!! When making it there were a few times when I felt that there must be a better way to do what I was doing – particularly attaching all of the six button loops! Having said that I really do love the way it looks as proven by the fact I am willing to mend it after every second wear.
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Re-drafted the Sketchbook shorts to a girls boot cut jean today, not going as well as Son&Heirs pants, but I will keep fiddling .
Twin 2 was given a piece of stretch denim with a tiny gold fleck running through it and she desperately wants it made up, Its not my cup of tea, but we will give it a go . Thus, the O+S pattern, hopefully they will be groovy enough for her and respectable enough for her father.
Hoping to draft and cut out the Music class blouse tonight , would like to make the twins one each , one white, one cream .
T888, what is the Village dress? It sounds very delicate.
14 years ago LINKToyota888 @Toyota888It is a very sweet dress by a blogger (as opposed to a pattern designer, hence not so practically constructed as O & S) – search “Sugar City” on Flikr and there are lots of photos.
14 years ago LINKsayiamyou @marayaOh my! T888 you have the Village Frock!??! I’ve been on a mad quest for that pattern for so long now! I want it SO badly! Nicole, you would LOVE it!! Please T888, if you happen on it online for sale any place, let me know!!? Or Liesl could do a variant??? π
Finished up 4 new Ice Cream dresses for my girl (and 2 others for gifts…shew!) over the past couple weeks and just this weekend finished up 3 pairs of Puppet Show Shorts to finish out the summer.
Getting ready to work on cool weather goodies. Started and completed one Sailboat top and skirt last week. (wow, when I type this I can see great acheivement…but I always feel like I can’t get anything done!) Just traced my pieces for the Jump Rope dress. Have supplies ready to trace the 2+2 blouse as well. I’ve never made either of these patterns, so looking forward them!
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5T888, I had a look, so sweet ! It seems that it is no longer available , which is possibly a very good thing !
Wow ,Mel , that is a lot of sewing, did you post the shorts on flickr ?
I love the Jump rope , and the 2+2 , have fun
14 years ago LINKToyota888 @Toyota888Yes a few months back I noticed they said on their blog they weren’t doing any more reprints – very sad. Both the lovely ladies had just had fourth children!! As far as I know it was only available direct from them. Nicole if you are coming through Melbourne you can trace one off mine π It only goes from size 2 to 6.
Hey I just finished a new ironing board cover tonight! I have been meaning to do that for about a year now! Soon I can start a “fun” project again.
14 years ago LINKsayiamyou @marayaNo, haven’t been able to post pictures yet. Busy weekend and a restless babe (I think her back teeth are giving her a hard time)! Those shorts are a favorite of Husband’s. I made them all in linen and they are perfect…so light for the HOT days we have in store and still so very stylish with the little pockets. I admit they are a bore though, all khaki, but it matches with the tops I’ve made for her. And I could make 2 pairs from a yard, plus squeeze a third from scraps! π Trying to use up all my scrap stash when it’s possible…
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Thanks T888, Melbourne is not that far away……
Must be the season for restless babies Mel ! Little One is not a happy little vegemite it the moment. I barricaded her in the workroom with me so I could finish Twin 2’s jeans and she trashed all the craft cupboards in a stroppy ! Normally she will play nicely.
The jeans turned out okay, at least they don’t scream Hannah Montana !
Twin 1 has chosen a traditional dark denim and would like them tapered so that she can tuck them into her boots, so Sketchbook , here we go again.
I am going to make some puppet show bloomers Mel, 3 pairs from a yard is amazing !
14 years ago LINKsayiamyou @marayaI would call it 3 pairs (of all linen, no coordinating) from about 1.5 yds, size 18-24M. Yes, I was very pleased! However, I bet you could wiggle around and maybe get 3 pairs of 6-12M from 1 yd, if she’s still wearing that size in the coming season.
Sorry about your workroom! My house looked like a tornado had gone through it when I got home from work yesterday! Then she was upset when I tried to clean up! What on earth?! Maybe we are entering the phase where she and I battle wills?? π
14 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviI have about two or three good sewing days left before my childcare help leaves for several weeks. I can do one more project, maximum level 2. Suggestions? I’ve done Tea Party, Ice Cream View C, Popover, Story Time, and Sailboat so far. I’ve got a good bit of woad blue French General fabrics in a few different patterns, what would look nice in those?
