What are you sewing now?

Justsewit, do you have an older sewing book?, I have a few (espically an old vouge one that is fantastic) and these generally have pictures of fitting problems and their solutions.
I am wondering if she might have a sway back, this is quite common in ladies, so I would preseume it might be commmon in girls as well. Basically the lowere back curves in toward the front and leaves hte back looking baggy. Maybe google ‘sway back adjustment’ and see if that helps.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitShe may have a sway back but I was telling her to stand up straight and she kept sticking the belly out and arching her back. She’s not good for fitting stages – just like her personality, its end product that will be the prize not the process of getting there that she cares about. I have made another back pattern using the pivot technique and hopefully it will be ok. I just have to cut and sew another muslin and try it on when she gets home. Then hopefully I can get started with cutting it all out and sewing tomorrow on my day off.
The trouble is I have lots of helpful books but they didn’t have this technique in them and not of all them are accessible at the moment due to needing a library area in my sewing “nook”. I’m just hoping that pivoting the pattern to bring it out 1.5 inches at the back will allow me to do the dart and make a nice fit. I could probably get all three up to the zipper stage tomorrow as I haven’t checked the zipper situation for ones that would go well with the fabric.
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Drafted,cut and sewed an Ice Cream dress as a birthday gift for a little friend of Lidia’s.
The child is very tall and quite solid so I think this dress will be very flattering to her shape.
I finished it in a day AND kept up to date with the washing, woo hoo!

12 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI just finished up two sketchbook tops, one to go then onto some pants for baby C. I just might get all the sewing done I want to do this week!

12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI cut out things and sorted out patterns yesterday. I was supposed to cut the Fairy Tale dresses but found myself slicing into fabric around the Croquet dress pattern instead. I’ll do at least two Fairy Tale dresses today so that I can possibly get started on the sewing bit Thursday and Trim shopping Friday. I have this wicked idea swirling around in my head for the blue Eiffel dress, just hope I have enough of everything to make it.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiJust finishing my first pair of Harry Potter Pants in dark grey drill. I used the sandbox pattern (minus the drawstring) as I had previously altered it to fit this child. Just the last leg hems and elastic to go!
Currently in the washing stage, washed the “do not wash/dry clean only” wool op shop skirt with a little wool mix, so I hope that goes OK, but figured I needed to do this as it will become children’s dress ups. Re washing my knit as per Nicole, and washing my nylon chiffon for the pettiskirt.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI’ve just finished off the red riding hood cape for tomorrow’s dress up day. I am now going to have a late night sewing a blue croquet dress to go with it – CW blue which will look fab but I fear it will be a very late night.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitIt is 12.26am and I have just finished the Blue CW Croquet dress. Now I’m off to bed! Night Night!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiOnly lust past midnight and in 5 hours (including after the 9pm “I’m starting to make mistakes” time)! Well done justsewit.
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I completely agree Heidi!
I have the ‘Only Lust past Midnight’ rule in my house too!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitThanks ladies.Trust me, I was keeping a keen eye on the clock and had lovely music to keep me having the second wind every hour past 9.30pm. I don’t normally do it but with huge time challenges at the moment I had no choice. As it happens I found a blue dress in the wardrobe I’d forgotten about so she could have worn that instead but oh well, she has a new one and that is good also as it would have been made anyway.
Today, I’m not sewing because I have to go collect a young man from school after his mock year 12 exams and hopefully he is all packed and ready by the time I get there – my nephew has no mum to do this so I’m the volunteer this term. I’m making the most of a trip to town by getting some much needed zips of the right length and colour – this was included in the 5 hours of sewing, a panick attack over no zips that would go as I was initally going to make the Fairy Tale dress.
I will post photos – once we are all home and sorted as in my haste to get out the door, I took dh’s camera and the batteries promptly went flat just at the crucial moment.
Happy sewing to all. I’m back at the machine tomorrow for a full day stint – I’m on strike from housework, it’s holiday time!
12 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchOnly lust past midnight, but then don’t wake me if I’m already asleep!
– you guys made me laugh.
Sewing wise: i’m only half way through that pile of cut out stuff…. I had two patterns still untouched (Swingset and Ice Cream) then I got excited about the Evel Knievel idea and bought the Nature Walk pattern (cut a trial run but yet to be sewn). And then what did Liesl & Co go and do, but have a paper pattern sale. So now I’ve bought more patterns!
Even though there was no deadline for the unfinished pile I think I’ve officially been defeated as I’ve bought some of those Autumn patterns without having finished the other stuff.
Since the sewing machine has been packed away for a while I’ve handpieced a small quilt for a cradle that little A will get for Christmas. Of course, then I went and drew the most elaborate quilting patterns in every border. Goodness knows if I’ll ever actually stitch it all……
More time please.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiYes please to the more time! One pair of brown pants for me down. Now 2 pairs in Black.
Definatly not defeated even if you did buy more patterns. Those Autumn patterns are great and will probably get lots of good use!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI forgot to mention what is next … I was in Spotlight today and saw some neon drill!! But I was sensible and got a lovely bright blue and a pretty pink that is in between hot and not. I have every ambition to make a matching trench coat with one of the Fairy Tale dresses that are waiting their turns and I think I am opting for the blue – I haven’t passed it by IG at all as I have only just gotten in the door but this is the thought for the moment anyhow.
I want to start early tomorrow and cut one Fairy Tale and trench coat to sew for the birthday. And if that means up to buttons going on then so be it as I could do that later in the week.
Anyway that is the plan…
More time sounds really really good!
12 years ago LINKkatybellabug @katybellabugI am at the beginning of a huge job making 4 pairs of curtains for my sister in law although I did manage to squeeze in a Sailboat Skirt last night as I needed a break from straight line sewing! (It was all pre-cut anyway) I am ploughing through these curtains but have recently received my School Days coat pattern and the toggles, buttons and cord arrived this morning. Fabric on order so will make time for that asap seeing as the temperature has dropped in the UK already and we are digging out the hats and gloves for cold mornings.
Had a bit of a stressful week. Husband has been away with work and I awoke on Wednesday morning to find water pouring through the ceiling in my daughters bedroom. Far too much rain on a roof that needs replacing. The little one has been restless and not having any of her naps and so my angel of a spouse has declared tonight an order-in and watch dvd night. I may switch off my sewing machine for a few hours!
