What are you sewing now?

Addedum: The pinnies are not Oliver +S patterns, but a another commercial brand. I’m pleased with the result, and interested to know what other sewers think.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitGrrr… in true school form I am given a week’s notice to get two costumes together for book week on the last day of term (Friday next week)! The truth is I thought I was organised and yet the red riding cape is still sitting in pieces on my sewing table (along with a pair of afterschool jeans). I just truly haven’t had enough time to put together something that is generally quick and easy!!
Now to change the children’s minds – they have changed their minds and want to go as something totally different. I may leave it up to them this year yet!
Oh question, is The Green Lantern a book character?? We have a ready made costume for that and N has ditched the Chief in favour of this instead – but only if it is a book character.
So I guess I will be finding five minutes here and there to slowly make more costumes – so over it!
12 years ago LINKcybele727 @cybele727If comics count, then yes. 🙂 Wait, those are now called “graphic novels”.
The first Green Lantern (Alan Scott) was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940).
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiThe Green Lantern is definatly a book charachter. My brother had a book with him in as a kid. It was a superhero story and had an accompanying tape, so you played the tape and read along with it.
Good luck with the costumes!
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I MUST make Hugo’s Sketchbook shorts(x4) next as he will need them for school next term.
The clever Cindy has shown me how to put a zipper fly in them so he can get them on.
As they require navy thread I shall sew up the Badminton skorts which will just leave the Hula Hoop,Book Report and Fairy Tale patterns for the ‘Dead Horse’ challenge.

12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh yay! Thanks for letting me know. This means I can officially not make a Green Lantern costume and I don’t have to stress about it either. Miss 9 going on 26 now wants to go as Batgirl – I told her she has to go as Red riding hood, her first choice because I have already cut out her cape! I had visions this morning whilst ironing my work shirt of her turning up in Class picnic shorts and a short sleeved Field trip shirt as wonder woman! Maybe next year.
Sewing for the moment has slowed in pace as I am in the process of tidying my area – it was cluttering up a bit much and the cupboard was a bit rumped.
But definitely Sunday I will get to the cape and that will leave the other days off in the week for other things like getting birthday dresses sorted for miss soon to be double digits!
12 years ago LINKndeporto @ndeportoHave a sketchbook shirt cut out, attempting to learn to match plaids. Hmm we’ll see. Also have two pairs of sandbox pants, a raglan tee, a vogue pattern dress for me and a sis boom baby bubble pattern all cut out. Now where to find the time to hunker down and gets these done! All you fabulous seamtresses do you ever sew for yourself or just your children. I have some of Leisl’s Lisette patterns I am dying to make but alas the kids come first!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI used to sew for me – before I had kids and I made maternity things when I was expecting my first but since then it has been very very rare! I said once before I have really well dressed kids and the parents seem to be wearing rags…. it is sort of true. We make do with what we have and rarely by new clothes because we don’t really go anywhere that warrants latest trends.
Having said that though, I too have Lisette patterns and a couple of Amy Butler ones I would love to dive on into. I think it will be a project for this summer though when the kids are home and learning to sew we can all do our own little projects and mum can finally get something for herself.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiGlad we could help you with your book week justsewit.
I have finished my grey Trench coat , just in time for the birthday today! And I finished the matching bucket hat last night, as I didn’t want to do the button holes last night while I was tired.
I am now tracing the family reunion pattern in size 6m-4.
Just waiting to get to the post office and get my box of new fabric and pattern!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh new fabric and pattern how exciting! I have fabric parcels opened but not really looked at – not alot of time around here at the moment. Hope you enjoy!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiJust got them! Very exciting. Some lovely nylon chiffon for my pettiskirts, it feels soooo nice. And the knot for my trousers, I must make them tomorrow as I am down to two pairs without holes! Then I will make up my new class picnic pattern!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh that one is on my list for the challenge too! I half made a pair of shorts and did a top but really need to make more. The chiffon sounds lovely – nothing worse than itchy fabric.
12 years ago LINKlattemama @lattemamaTracing the Badminton dress tonight (fingers crossed) and a size 8 Jump Rope for the 5 yo. I graded the size 8 for Isabel when I first got the pattern and never had the size 8 traced like I thought.
I cut out some white broadcloth for a toile for Isabel’s Fairy Tale. I graded it to a 14, then cut and spread it ½” extra and I plan to skip the darts to begin with and see if I can squeeze them in or if I have to leave them out. Sewing that one up tonight I hope.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiHope your toile works well, lattemama.
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I drafted, cut and sewed a vintage KwikSew polo for Hugo this afternoon.
It is a very fitted 70’s style. He measured an XS mens,I made the S and I think I will size up to a M.
He wore his last lot for 2 years and now they have handed down to the Twins. It would be nice to get another 2 years from this lot.
I loathe making them but I have a good source for the knit and they are a quick sew. They also look far nicer then the purchased ones and wear far better.
I will need to change over to dark thread to make the school versions so I will finally make the Badminton skirts.
I hope to sneak them and a navy Music Class skirt and Class Picnic shorts into their school uniforms, shhhh.
