I am about to make a PlayDate dress too,for a friends baby girl in some special japanese linen I was saving just for her!

I promised a reader a month or so back a tutorial and I think I may have a way to bind the neck seam AND keep the yoke(it may not work so I am keeping stoom)

Finished the batch of Class Picnic blouses for my girls.

Must do some sewing for me!

    Hey Lisette….

Oooh, I could use that tutorial, this is my first Playdate dress 🙂 Sewing for yourself is always good!

I think I have to sew for myself too. We have a railway camp up the road while they are widening the tracks to accomodate for the iron ore trains passing through and I think I may have picked up some data entry work 3 days a week until Christmas. It’s kind of fun to think that I get to line the fabric habit funds even if it is only a little bit.

So I have to take a look at my Lisette patterns and see if I can get some decent work wear out of them – I have until the end of the school break (a week and a bit) to get something accomplished.

I just hope that things will pan out smoothly in terms of childcare once the summer school holidays come about, ie, harvest being complete etc.

I like that top Liesel was wearing in her hems video and I have that pattern so whipping up some of them could be the way to go.

Nicole – I just finished a playdate dress with what I thought was a terribly clever way to bind the neck opening. I wonder if we thought of the same thing? 🙂 But now I need to go sew myself a Peony dress for the party!

Meleliza,I wondered about cutting wider binding. Binding the yoke from the wrong side but rather then tucking it under on the right side press it the opposite way to make a folded edge on the right side (flat piping)then stitch the yoke on catching the raw edge of the binding.

    Would that work?

I wouldn’t bother myself, but it is for a friend that adores bound seam and she sews so well I want it perfect.

The only bound seams I do are on the Sunday Brunch and the armholes on the Class Photo.

I knocked up two pairs of Nature Walk pants for the twins to wear in the evenings and I have cut my PlayDate dresses out and will blog my construction.

One is lined, the other I will do exactly as the pattern instructs,I love that yoke!

I’m not sure I’m following exactly what you’re saying, but my solution did involve wide bias binding. I’m now wishing I had taken pictures as I went because I fear it might be difficult to explain in words – and I can’t draw either. I’ll try to get some pictures of the finished product over the weekend, but we have a busy busy few days ahead. We’re all going apple picking this afternoon and somehow we’ve got to fit in painting our newly restored family room. Plus, I really need to at least get the main pieces of my dress fitted so that if I need supplies I can head to Joann for the Columbus day sale. Baby girls birthday party is in two weeks, so I need to finish sewing the decorations, and order all the other stuff I’ve decided to delegate. Yikes! I wish I could convince my mother to fly up early and help.

Still working on my PlayDate dresses, very busy on farm and we are on school hols so I feel like I am endlessly cooking!

On the cutting board(who am I kidding, its my kitchen table)is navy drill to make Sketchbook shorts for Son&Heir, the 12 fits him so I am hopeful the After School pants may be an option for him as well.

When am I going to sew for me!

I feel your pain Nicole. I have patterns and fabric for my clothes but … miss 9 wants to make Matryoshka dolls today out of felt so I will need to help her with that and the boy has done something to the little sewing machine for the children so I will have to see what went wrong there …. or else they will want to use mine and that’s a no go!

I have cut out 3/4 pants, sandbox shorts in this really great print that would be ideal for boardies, a 2+2 skirt enlarged of course and a Sunday Brunch skirt aswell as umpteen million other things sitting there waiting.

I still have to prepare an enlarged size bucket hat for school hats (the largest size was a teensy bit snug) and some “lovely” black things for school mainly shorts for the lad as he only has two pairs. I can cut ahead of time the school skirts for miss 9 and sew them during the summer school holidays – it will give me a chance to see if my enlarged versions need further assessment or not.

HOWZAAAAT! Sorry Nicole – felt compelled!

Haven’t sewn yet – even though I said I would. I’ve instead been fiddling around with variations of aline skirts (don’t ask why!). I do have to get cracking on shorts though apparently we are in for 37 degrees C on Sunday. Summer is a coming!

You are getting warmer and we are getting colder! Fall is here and all the leaves are changing colors, oh so pretty outside.

I haven’t sewn a much this past two weeks. I am debating between a couple of different projects including me making a pattern for a dress for Sweet pea I seen. The boys could use new pants and I need to order the cord for a jacket. I promised a book bag for the yougest but can’t seem to get myself to trace a pattern out, lol.

I am inspired for several dresses for Sweet pea and some 2+2 outfits too but she has way too many clothes already!. She is the only girl so I think I went over board on making her dresses. Her closet is full, her dresser is full and the top of her dresser has two big stacks but still I can hear the 2+2 calling my name! and the Sunday brunch skirt, bubble dress, family reuion dress……So for right now I am stuck. Any one else have this problem?

This week my daughter fought off strep throat…..since I was home with her for a few days instead of teaching my kindergarten class, I used her nap time as a chance to get some projects lined up! I traced and cut out patterns for an Ice Cream Dress, a Family Reunion dress, and a pair of Sleepover Pajamas for both of my children. Now I just need to cut out the fabric. Tomorrow I am going to a smocking class….and I am super excited! (I’ve smocked before…..but did it all on my own……I can’t wait to see the proper way to smock!)

Sharon, you are not alone! My mind is always 5 miles ahead of where I am at! Every pattern that I have not sewn yet calls my name! My queue is always growing instead of shrinking! But I wouldn’t have it any other way! Suggestion: If Sweet Pea’s closet is full, maybe start on the next size up! You know how those growth spurts sneak up on us mommies!

Adrienne, making the next size up is a great idea! She’ll needs lots of those. 😉 Maybe even tons, lol.

I hope your little girl feels better soon! I have a sick little one home with me today. I am waiting to see if the schools calls me to pick another one or two today. It seems like when one is sick the others get it soon.

Nicole, thanks for the progress pics on the playdate dress, I haven’t even started cutting mine out yet but now I know I will have no problems! Thanks again for documenting your progress 🙂

    Thank you Emily!

It has been the children’s hol’s so things have been busy and that sewing was put on ‘hold’. What lovely motivation to finish it off.
