What are you sewing now?

It is a shame postage is so expensive over to Tassie, I received a box of fabric and notions a few days back and there is a bendy ruler thing in there. I will toss it in with the polar fleece Heidi.
I finished a Field Trip tee for Tildy but the neck was too large and I missed it before I had topstitched it. I ended up making it work with poppers but it is certainly not my best sewing.
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiThanks Nicole! I have a 50cm/20″ one which has been fantastic but not quite long enough for my crotch curve 🙁 I Know postage within Australia is shockingly expensive!
9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitHeidi its expensive and slow as a wet week! I ordered some miracle blankets and I swear they are walking them across the Nullabor still! They were sent ofer a week ago from NSW.
I managed to sew for an hour last night and again today. I didn’t get a heap done though – just a lot of fiddling and procastinating. I managed to cut and sew neck and arm bindings for one Angel top and attached the arm bindings. I have to make a bit of minipiping, attach that and then attach the neck binding after sorting out the button plackets. This isn’t going to be done fast but it will be done soon enough. We are heading into another scorching week so it will be well worn.
Once the tops are done I can go on with the pants to match. I am thinking Puppet show shorts would be a cute match.
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI think I might nearly be up to a muslin 🙂 In some ways the pattern no longer looks like the original, but I have a much better idea why most RTW and sewn straight from the pattern pants pretty much never fit!
It’s been about 4 hours work so far just on flat pattern adjustment and probably another hour or so before it’s ready for the muslin but if it works hopefully I can knock out the 5 pairs I want for camp by Tuesday. The sewing is extremely fast compared to the fitting adjustments!9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I found an hour to start Tildy’s velvet Field Trip cargoes. I cut the size 18-24 mnth with the length of the 5. The back leg is great but I have ended up with a too short front leg, I must have not got my measurements quite right. It is not a biggie though, I can add a wee panel to the bottom front leg as it will work with the existing panels.
It feels crazy sewing trousers in 40 d heat but that is what she needs.
Have you looked in your children’s cupboards? What do they need?9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiBack to work on the shorts this morning!
9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitIn answer to your question Nicole, the biggies need everything! Miss Chloe just needs a few pretties in the 3-6 month size so they are ready but much more in the next size again – slow progress sewing.
It makes it very difficult when you have a little boy one minute then you see him literally growing in his sleep the next – my mother infuriated me by buying him clothes in a small man’s size which are still a little big but not for long! It’s time to update the male sewing patterns in my stash to accommodate this growth of a nine year old!
And my eldest? well she has decided she wants to make her own things by not using a pattern. I am not quite easy with that but admire her ambition and imagination. I just feel that the use of a pattern first might give her a better first time result and not deter her from trying to improvise in the future. She has suddenly decided it isn’t so bad to sew, possibly because she has discovered she will be doing sewing at school this year for home economics.
But then I think I remember really catching the bug around her age also, so maybe it is a genetic thing.
On the sewing table right now is an improvised version half done of a miracle blanket – because the parcel is very late in arriving and baby girl has grown out of her seemingly running small swaddles. Last night we did the sleeping bag thing and she kept whacking herself but this morning I wrapped her arms and she slept much much better. Just hoping I either get the half made one complete today or the parcel arrives – or both!
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI’ve done a pair of navy shorts up to the zipper and I have some brown one cut ready to sew. Now I need to waste an hour going to get zips. I’m fairly sure I’ll get these two done, I’m not sure if I’ll get any more though. I think two will get me through 🙂
9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI have changed my mind about the miracle blanket! My baby is a regular little Houdini! So I think ditching the idea of making one is a very good idea and using the cut pieces for something else.
I am also currently trying to convince the eldest daughter to let me make her first formal dress – this is definitely not the time to improvise with no sewing experience! We have a bit of time. It isn’t until next term.
9 years ago LINKBeckyinFL @BeckyinFLJust popping in here to say that I’ve been off-line due to a household move, and boy I’ve missed this site! Between unpackings I made a little sketchbook shirt and some of the layette pieces. Wow, there’s some interesting construction in that jacket. Will post picks later. Anyway, I’ve missed all the friendly voices here, the shared addiction to O+S patterns. Got online about 15 minutes ago, and of course had to come here first to see what’s been doin’!
9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Welcome back Becky, I hope the unpacking goes well.
I finished Tildy’s Field Trip outfit. Huge success, my girly girl loves her velvet farm trousers.
Next up a knit Music Class blouse and knit Lunch Box culottes for a sneaky school uniform for Liddy.
9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5My sweet Liddy turned 11 today and I made her a red sunhat, at her request.
It was the Sunkissed sunhat but I did go all LTTS bucket hat on the construction.9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiHappy birthday Liddy!
I finished up the last two pairs of Colette Iris shorts for me 5 mins before I walked out the door to school camp on Tuesday!
Now I’m back after 4 days away I’m going to sew up something Oliver and S!- This reply was modified 9 years ago by with love Heidi.
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI’ve made a beautiful midnight satin tea party dresse with matching shirred bloomers! It was so nice to just cut and sew!
I now have a lengthened playsuit cut out in green and black 🙂9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI have a pair of Layette pants and a bodysuit pinned to some Lisette lisette ready to make into pyjamas for baby Chloe. Both are size 0-3 months.
