Chin chin Meleliza (apparently that is “cheers” in Italian – according to my Italian teacher from school. And I can’t spell the German version but anyway – bottoms up!) hope it was good.

I have scrapped all plans for kcw for this week. I might do my own kcw next week instead.

I am about midway through my Amy Butler Traveller dress and have the pattern pieces laid out for my next one. Trouble is I have to change threads (on the both machines) so I will only get to it once the AB one is well and truly completed.

I can’t wait to see pictures Meleliza! It sounds so lovely!

Today I am finishing Jacob’s Easter Sketchbook pants from last year and I am hoping to get to Caspian’s coat to go with his Easter outfit too. I don’t really plan on KCW this week though, like Tamara I plan on starting a dress for me after I finish up little man’s outfit. Then this year family Easter pictures! We have not had a family picture in quite a few years now.

    Prost!

I’m not sure I’ll get pictures today. It’s supposed to rain all day. Hopefully tomorrow. Plus it just occurred to me that she ought to have pink shoes too. Off to Zappos!

Raising a glass to you all

I’ve started on my enormously ambitious KCW pile (I should probably confess I did a little bit last night too) and so far I’ve made 3 pair of Playtime leggings, a Field Trip Raglan dress and a wool cardigan from a Japanese pattern book. Love that over locker!

But with the clocks going back I’m ready for bed already. I’m hoping I’ll build my staying power each day and pull off some all nighters later in the week.

Oh to not have a job and sew all day, I’d be as happy as could be!

Oh, which Japanese book is it?

Whoa, Shelley! That is a lot for day 1 (even day 0 and day 1)!

This weekend I cut four Izzy blouses and one knit sleepsack for the baby. I managed to sew up one of the Izzys today and now I wish I hadn’t cut four of them. Don’t get me wrong, they are VERY cute, but the construction method leaves an exposed bodice/skirt seam on the inside and I’m bitter about it. As the pattern is very close to the Ice Cream Top I suppose it would not be too difficult to use that construction method and attach the yoke facing to the skirt separately, thus hiding the seam – however the Izzy yoke is curved so I’m guessing there might be a slight trick to it.

Anyway, all this has me less than enthusiastic to sew up the other three. O+S really does spoil us!

Ain’t that the truth? I thought my kid would be awash in stuff from my Japanese books once she sized into them, but no. The stuff is cute from afar on a moving child, but the quality is just not the same.

I am almost done with my family reunion Easter dress. A very slow process, but it has come together well. I think I will be pleased. Color blocked and fully lined, with eyelet that is like tissue paper and sateen that frays horribly. All I have left are button holes and the buttons!!

I find that the more O & S I sew, the less I can abide by other patterns. I love Japanese styles, but fear the purchase as the directions aren’t within my grasp.

Yep! that’s the one but for some reason I keep wanting to spell it differently.

I am absolutely hopeless at sewing plackets down from the right side so have resorted to stitching them down by hand to give a better result. For some reason it is one of few things sewing wise I just can’t do well (or is it to my liking?). So as a result, I am still stitching the plackets down. I really only have that, the collar and the buttons to go. Then I will stick it on the Dolly and take a photo.

I agree with you guys! I’ll sew Oliver and S where I can, modify it to get the look I want or only as a last resort use another pattern company for something very different šŸ™‚

I’m working on the second wedding Cape muslin, as this one is interlined I’ve had to cut the pattern out 3 times. But the front and back sewn up just the interlining to go!

No children’s sewing but I spent nearly 2 hours mending a pair of work jeans. They were near new and expensive but had been ripped by rams horns. Helping out a neighbour, we have Polls-no horns, much more civilised-;)

Certainly not pretty sewing but very satisfying.

The sartorial terrorist (as I have nicknamed her for being… well exactly that when it comes to making clothes) told me today that she didn’t like her Easter Dress in progress.

Mommy, I know it’s not done, but I tried it on. I don’t like it.

    Me: Why not?

Her: it is filled with holes. Clothes aren’t supposed to have holes. [It’s eyelet.]

    An hour or so later?

Me: well your Easter dress is almost done. I just have buttons.

Her: Easter? I don’t want that to be an Easter dress. [Are you all feeling my exasperation, yet?] I want it to be an anyday dress. I can wear it any day!

I guess she changed her mind about those holes.

    Funny kid! ‘Holes’!

Nicole, I started my KCW with mending a broken elastic and finishing all my ironing. And then shoving everything else I didn’t want to deal with into the closet with brute force, if we’re being honest. Are we being honest?

Finished today with four pairs of pockets sewn to four pairs of Puppet Show shorts, assorted sizes. I went over 99 minutes, not sure by how much. Maybe put in 2 hours? And that’s strictly sewing and pressing, that doesn’t include tracing and cutting. I wish I knew how the blazes you folks get to be so fast!

I find the details, like pockets, always take up the largest chunks of time in a sewing project. I also feel that sewing multiples assembly line style doesn’t always work best for me. I like the “look I finished something!” feeling 4 times not just once šŸ™‚

Heidi, you’re so right — by the time I got to the eighth pocket I was pretty tired of looking at pockets!
