What are you sewing now?

I’m doing some embroidery on the yoke of a Hide-and-Seek dress for Sofia. I think I have to treat the first one as a test yoke because my stem stitching is atrocious before I get used to it. I’ve been doing so much cross stitching lately it’s getting me confused.

I finished a polka dot jersey dress for Isabel – it felt so good to sew for her again, and to have it be something she liked.

I sewed up a sleeveless blouse with a tie-neck collar for myself. I realized after I cut the pieces that I cut the back on the cross-grain. There is a slight selvage-to-selvage stretch so the drape is affected. The entire thing is black, though, so I think it is still wearable. I just can’t believe I made such a dumb mistake.

Next up are some long-sleeved tshirts for baby boy, probably Field Trip Raglans. He is growing so fast!

Oh no Masha, its not so dumb. Sometimes you can get away with doing that!

I ordered a piece of Liberty Capel in a sage green to make my new tiny cousin a Sketchbook shirt to wear under an Art Museum set.

For a small baby boy, do I do the vest and trousers in the same fabric or different? I was thinking different but Jed (partner) says the same.

I have some latte coloured velvet, I was going to use and a micro check wool for the vest (merino super wool machine wash doncha know)!

I vote for the wool check.

For me, vest and trousers in velvet would be too “special occasion” whereas wool check would be very cute country toddler/gentleman.

I would probably agree with Lighting, both the same very special occasion. Different but coordinating sill special but more everyday events 🙂 Either will be amazing!

Maybe wait for the capel to arrive and then see what would go better? Sometimes the internet can distort the colour somewhat as you would already know. I like the sound of both, especially for winter. Could you make both for him or would it be too much?

Been spending twenty minutes or so flicking through my Ottobre design magazines that have finally arrived. Heidi did you say you were making the jersey blazer? Was it big girl size or little girl sized?

I have picked out a few things that will great deplete the fleecy fabrics from the stash for this winter. Some great styles for casual knock around wear.

Sorry, Jed. I pick two fabrics too. If you make the wool one his parents may put it on him with other things too. My guy has worn his long after special occasion in various sorts of dressed up and down. Are you making a teeny-tiny size? B/c that will be really fun if you are. 🙂 I can’t wait to see the tiny floral shirt! That is just the sort of thing I love!

Mom is in town for a visit right now. There is fabric, muslins, tracing paper, and various sewing paraphernalia from my front door to the sewing room and everywhere in between. It is great fun! Not much to show but lots of muslins and mock ups of different patterns. We can get to the business of actual garments when we go our separate ways again. We just about got fitting me figured out. A small shoulder adjustment right off the bat makes a world of difference. I’m still trying to figure out how to actually plan, pick, and make myself a wardrobe that will get worn and be useful. I just started teaching college part-time and realized I don’t really have all that many appropriate things in my closet.

Tamara, I’m making the jersey blazer from the latest women’s issue, 2/2014 for myself! It’s an adult size blazer. It’s getting there but the fitting is slowing me down 🙁 It’s going together well but I need to do lots of fitting for my height and shape 🙂

Mcholley, I would love to hear about your small shoulder adjustment asII’ve recently been wondering if a small shoulder adjustment would be beneficial for me but I haven’t found much information.

I just wondered because they have one for girls in the spring edition for kids. I like the style of the woman’s jacket but I’m not sure how it would work for me in jersey knit. Can’t wait for you to show what it looks like finished.

Mcholley, teachers college? I contemplated the same, just to get my kids through school but dealing with the everyday behaviour of other peoples’ children, I am really not sure about that one. All I can say is good on you!

But sewing with your mum sounds like more fun than it would be if I were in that situation. My mum tends to take over (it is her teacher profession type of way). I would prefer to do the sewing and fitting with my sister instead – much more fun. Again all I can say is good on you! At least it sounds like just the fitting and mock ups you are doing.

Thanks for the feedback Ladies. I think we are all on the same page.

Tamara, I don’t think I would make two vests for a baby boy, he probably won’t wear one that often before he grows out of it.

Half a dozen Gro-suits would probably be more practical but where is the fun for me there?

I did make him a teeny tiny Tea Party romper today. So sweet. I lined it with voile and trimmed it with navy Capel.

Good luck MC, you will be fabulous.

I’m all talk about sewing these days. Not getting much done at all. Tonight is earmarked for Sofia’s Hide-and-Seek dress. I have the yoke embroidery to finish up – I really MUST get it done.

Isabel is still wearing her Lady Skater dress (two days in a row – with stains and all – “Never mind Mummy, who cares?”) and I’m itching to make her a second one but I am out of fabric. (There’s a phrase I never thought I’d say). Knit fabric that is!

Baby needs new clothes. I sewed up a Field Trip Raglan in the 12-18 month size with 18-24 month length – and it is just long enough. I will need to add a band to the bottom. Kid is long! Next up are a pair of cargos for him, then maybe another something for me. I had my husband take some shots of me in the sleeveless blouse today and my error in cutting the back really does show up in this fabric – all kinds of weirdness in the way it falls in the back. I can still wear it with a cardigan, or in dark rooms 😉

I love the Art Museum pattern – I’ve already used it twice and will be using it again to make ring bearer outfits for my son and the other ring bearer in my sister-in-law’s summer wedding. Little boys are so cute in vests (though, yes, the velveteen one I made for Christmas has not been worn since).
