My new skirt is well on its way. I have just ruffled 36m (39.5 yards)! And have 6 of my seven tiers done! Just the top tier and some sort of waist band. I would like a contoured one but it may only get an elastic waist. I figure since the skirt is about 105cm (41.5″) long a slight discrepancy between the length of front and back is not going to be noticed, so the elastic waist may be the way to go.

Heidi, do you use a ruffler foot for all these tiered skirts of yours? I’d love to see photos sometime.

Yesterday I embarked on what could only be termed a sewing binge. My 4-year-old has suddenly outgrown nearly everything she owns. So I sewed up the modified fleece Sunday Brunch, a pair of Playtime (j)eggings and a modified Hopscotch top. She is thrilled with all. The 3-year-old needs nothing, but I felt sorry for her missing out on the sewing and told her I would make her a skirt of her choosing. It is to be a purple linen Hopscotch, maybe sewn up today and tomorrow. I’ve never made a Hopscotch skirt before and am looking forward to it.

RTWG, I use both a gathering foot for my overlocker (serger) and a ruffler on the sewing machine. It depends on the job and how the fabric is to be joined.

These are the pettiskirts I made last year:

These use the ruffler on the bottom “fluff” layer and connecting the two bottom tiers to the top tier, but the gathering foot on the overlocker for gathe/connecting the two middle layers.

I’m not currently making one of these skirt, although I would like one for myself :), I am making a more gypsy type skirt which I sew almost exclusively on the overlocker using the gathering foot and differential feed. Ill get some pics up when it’s finished. 🙂

I sat up to the wee small hours of this morning attempting to use scraps and make 16 exercise book covers. I discovered at 12.30am they were too narrow to fit the books! I then proceeded to label everything as I should have done a few days prior (but lets just say the week has been somewhat topsy) and didn’t get to bed until 1.30 this morning! I vowed and declared I wouldn’t do this on the ve of school starting this year and of course did not follow my own advice!

Now I think I will have a lazy day of casualness and get back to sewing tomorrow!

I am sewing myself a swish Aubepine dress by Deer and Doe in a hammered silk. I have a cocktail party Saturday night in the city.

Two pairs of shorts plus bathers for both and (if there is time) swimming bags. All have to be done before Monday.

What pattern are you using for Imo’s bathers?

I thought of using the two piece from Ottobre summer 09. I think Cindy made them for her eldest a few years ago and they looked good. Of course the weather will call for a rash top and she has a rtw one but I am not sure it still fits ( because she hasn’t worn it in a while). So the chances of using the field trip top for a rash top will be quit high.

I did want to get the Jalie tankini pattern but I haven’t the time to spare now is time around.

Oh Nicole, I am slightly envious of making your dress. ; ) I really can not wait to see it!!

I am still sick, from flu to sinus infection, yuck. I really hope this will be gone very soon. I have been trying to work on a vintage dress for miss Sarah. This dress is test go before I cut into some nicer fabric. It has been so slow going. I didn’t want to start on wee man’s tea party suits until I was in clearer thinking mode. I should have waited on the dress too I think.

Nicole, how do you like Deer and Doe now that you’ve made a few? They have such cute concepts, but I’m always hesitant to try. I had a bad experience with one or two of the very small independent companies. I think pattern drafting is not as simple as some people think and few of them go to the trouble that

Oliver and S does to put out a good product, you know?

Sharon, I hope you feel better soon. All three kids are sick in my house. I have been vomited on A LOT the last 48 hours.

Nicole, can’t wait to see the dress! I have seen some adorable ones online!

I have a Music Box jumper half assembled – a gift for a new baby – and a hopscotch skirt cut out for my younger girl. Both cotton/linen blend fabric found in the Joann’s remnant bin a couple years back. Glad to finally find a use for both … but not sure when I’ll be able to get the time to complete them. Maybe the kids will nap well tomorrow …

I hope you and your kids will get to feeling better very soon to RTWG! Lucky for us the kids have not been bad but because of some of my health problems I think I get sick easier now. (At least it feels that way!) I went tot the ER last night for some meds and started on a antibiotic so I hope it works fast!

I hope to get to some sewing later today, her dress is calling me and there is so many things I want to sew but juts have not had the time for yet. *sigh*

Poor Mummies with sick babies. (And poor sick Mummies)

That said, I got a new Macbook on insurance last year as Matilda vomited in mine……..

Melanie, I do like Deer and Doe. Very very much. The instructions are not ‘fluffy’ but the basics are there. I tend to add stay stitching and basting as a matter of course. The pattern is very very well cut but they have small waists. This is the first pattern I have made for me and it has an empire line so I am hoping that will be more flattering on me.

I love them for my girls and they are definitely designed for women with curves. (But the waist is tiny)

Heidi, it is aubergine. Not a colour I would usually wear but I picked up a 5 m remnant for $50 so I am happy to settle.

Ew! Yukky! We have so far avoided the bugs of the season but I wish all of you experiencing illness good health once more and soon!

And I forgot to say Nicole, la di da have your luck to be going to a fancy do! And I am sure an Aubergine Auberpine will look stunning on you (those two words together would be funny to try saying when sozzled wouldn’t they?)

Ok, I am currently sewing (in my head) those school shorts. But in reality my measuring tape has up and left me so I will have to wing it on the shorts muslin and try them on the boy this afternoon. It just means yet another day behind schedule and it looks likely I will be sewing on the weekend when I wanted it for other things. Oh well these things do happen.

Now…. To find that measuring tape.
