What are you sewing now?

Yes, it’s down to the wire here! 2 pair of pj bottoms are finished, so worst case, the boys can wear those with t shirts. But I’m pushing through to finish the tops too. I don’t want that sitting on my sewing desk after the holidays. I’m taking all kinds of shortcuts, except seam finishes. The flannel ravels so badly and the boys are harsh on their clothes, so everything has to get French seams or flat- felled. Yes, I even French seam the sleeves!
I did skip the pockets and the separate cuffs. The pants will be long but rolled up. I also set the sleeves without any ease stitches! This is not a “correct” method, but if you’re in a hurry…. The Sleepover sleeves are pretty simple, and since they’re set flat, this worked out. Also, I’m using flannel shirting which has a lot of natural give to it. So, I used pins and my fingers and the feed dogs to ease in the sleeves. I definatley saved myself some time there.
I think the baby doll pjs my boys requested may not get done. And it just occurred to me that I have no buttons for Philip’s top!

I finished the pjs by 8pm on Christmas Eve. They were coming down from their baths to get theirs hot off the sewing machine!:) 3 Baby dolls got pjs too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24264063@N05/11548894403/in/pool-oliverands

Thanks, Mamaknowles!
I am enjoying making a nautical Tea Party playsuit out of my husbands old jeans. I love sewing after Christmas for the pure joy of sewing without the link looming deadline.
11 years ago LINKDown to sleeves and buttonholes on my Traveler tunic (view B) but I’m having some difficulty. My sleeve cap seems to have quite a lot of excess – as though it needs to be properly gathered rather than just “eased” (I know the motion is the same, it’s just the volume makes it seem more like gathering to me). Not sure what I did wrong – or maybe the sleeve is meant to be a little puffy?

Great way to recycle Heidi!
RTWG I haven’t made the traveller pattern as yet. Cant wait to see how your turns out. No sewing for me today I don’t think. Tomorrow I will get there. Those unfinished projects are all in a pile waiting their turn so I will get to them eventually. I have given myself two weeks to get as much done as possible but even that time limit might be changed.
I really want to finish a few table runners so they are ready for the new table.

In regards to the Traveller dress, check out this excellent blog post. http://www.21wale.com/2013/12/flatten-your-sleeve-cap.html.
i made up a size 12 Playtime dress yesterday, possibly for The Twins or to put away for my nieces birthday.

Nicole what are the twins’ thought on the playdate dress? I’d interested to know because my 11 year old will not wear the tunic 🙁 but she wears the dress I made in knit.

Rtwg I think excess in the sleeve cap can be a common problem in the Big 4. Even though it is Liesl’s design I have a feeling it was made off Simplicity slopers. Maybe baste in the sleeves and then work out if you want to change it. It will look great with your new skinnies!
11 years ago LINKThanks everyone. I decided to give it another try (mostly because I couldn’t find my measuring tape, and without it, the brilliant tutorial Nicole linked to would be much harder to pull off) and managed it. Just needed a bit of patience! Did the buttonholes and now I need to sew on all those buttons. The top is quite voluminous in the back and I am not sure I want to mess with darts – so it will either have to be belted or I’m playing with the idea of some shirring in the back.

Can’t wait to see it Rtwg!
I finished up my nautical Tea Party playsuit and have nearly finished a floral tea party dress made from the same pair of jeans with matching ruffled nappy cover. I need to get my things into the Flicker group especially the ones I finished for Christmas!

Today is fun sewing for me , I am going to make two more messy kid bibs for Caspian then a nature walk outfit for him out of fleece. Then back to my “I cut it out and started it” pile. It’s only a pair of pants for Jacob and sketchbook shirt for the baby but I want to sew something else right now. ; )

Ooo, thanks for that link. Would you believe I planned to cut out the traveller tunic today? I was thinking of using these last few days of vacation of doing something quick and fun for myself. I made a sleeveless version of this last year so I don’t have to worry about fit, but I hadn’t given any thought to sleeves and I really should have.

I have bought some fabric for one for myself but I haven’t seem to make it yet…with all these being made it makes me want to pull out my pattern as well. Maybe after I finish all my stuff in my sewing basket.
