What are you sewing now?

Mel, I wouldn’t have any qualms if last year’s Christmas dress were handsewn and fit properly. But it is from Target and really just a bit too small. But next year for sure I will sew. I didn’t sew yesterday after all – busy all day and I ended up going to sleep at 8:15 right after the kids. Couldn’t keep my eyes open. Dreaming of good health …

I’ve pinned the pattern pieces on for a black large messenger bag. I’m really looking forward to sewing it and following Liesl’s instructions, rather than my last few projects where I have had to work it out myself!
I have nearly finished the garment bag, hopefully get it done today and onto the messenger bag!

Murray spent $140 on materials for our tractor costume – well tractors in general are expensive. He had to get the more expensive fabric in order to have the colours I wanted. I will get going on this tomorrow.
First though, even though I am a day behind, I want to alter the pattern mentioned above and make a muslin for it so that once the tractor is done I can get on with it. I spent yesterday watching my fast track fitting craftsy class.

Flipping heck Tamara, you had best get that made!
Perhaps Noah could have a costume party for his birthday so it gets some more use.
I finished Hugo’s shirt, but it only just fits. I will have to draft the next size up for his next one. That was quite a shock.
He is attending a party tonight with the theme of ‘uniform’.
He is wearing his new shirt, black dress trousers, tie and a soft boiled wool blazer of mine…. and his fish hat.
Yup, he is going as a ‘school of fish’ boom boom.
I knocked up a quick felt fishy crest and sewed it to the blazer.
He does look rather dishy. Except for the hat, thats looks rather fishy.
Okay, I will go away now.

At least Hugo’s shirt does fit! And slim shirts are “in”, I think. And double duty for the fish hat 🙂 Are you onto fun Christmas sewing now Nicole?
I finished the garment bag I was working on. The time and effort were so worth it, it looks great and has no exposed seams!

Yes Heidi, the fish hat lives again.

Don’t worry Nicole, it will certainly get done. I was thinking of either hanging onto it to pass on to my little nephew to use or donate it to the kindergarten as a dressup. But I have to make it first. I wasn’t too happy over the cost but there just wasn’t the range of colours in the cotton apparently – it is always best to do these things yourself however, I didn’t fancy splitting myself in two to do so.
A costume party is a thought but we have to wait until July and I will make sure people actually turn up this time.
I need to make a check shirt as the “farmer” top which I will cut out tomorrow along with getting on with the tractor part of the costume. The mini sock savers (little covers that go over the ankle and top of the boot) don’t have to be made and he can get away with wearing denim shorts because it will not be seen. I want to finish the shirt and tractor by Tuesday so it gives me a day to troubleshoot if I have to. Hopefully no troubleshooting will be needed and I can then get on with altering the lisette pattern.

Looking forward to seeing the tractor, but wow a lot of money for the tractor costume!
Nicole, I Hugo looks great, I like the comment about the thermal vest, chivalrous and clever!
I have cut out one and half messenger bags and have the bias binding fabric and second lining fabric on the line, but I have run out of strap adjustors! And there is only one place in town to buy the large ones, so I’ll need to go shopping tomorrow.

Oh I know! I’m groaning over the while thing. It did cover the check fabric for the shirt also and the hobbyfill that will puff the tyres out. Noah announced he would prefer a cardboard one and I just about shouted at him because of it. He was trying to say that he couldn’t quite see the concept.
I came in to catch a bit of shut eye thanks to a late night and very early start and I slept the day away! I was halfway through doing the muslin for the peplum top so I will have to put it away for now and really get going on this tractor.
It just means I will have to work into the night to make some progress and then work on it some more tomorrow. I have no choice but to pull some late nights now.

Sewing plans for the weekend have been derailed. All plans have in fact been derailed. Friday evening, my 6 year old fell head first over the bannister from about 8 feet up. We spent the night in the ER and are deeply grateful that it was no worse than a nasty chin laceration and a fractured jaw. I mean, he could have snapped his neck! He has 7 stitches and he can’t chew anything for a few weeks. There will be lots of doctor visits and he can’t go outside to play or go to school. Sigh. It’s shocking how quickly food through a straw gets old.
Still, I can’t let everything go, so I will get a few hours sewing in today for sure, but not the everyday skirt I thought I might throw together.

Oh no! That is both horrible (cannot imagine how frightened you all must have been) and lucky (thank heavens it’s not worse)! I will have a look through the food blogs I follow and see if there are any exciting looking smooth soups or purees that might please your little guy.

Here are a few that look like good candidates for pureeing. Not sure how realistic it is that a kid would go for these flavors (I suppose it depends on the kid) or that a busy mom will have time for them, but maybe there will be something inspiring:

12 years ago LINKOh no, that is horrible! Poor kiddo! I remember not being able to chew after my wisdom teeth came out, and how awful that was – but it was only a few days. I hope you find something to tempt his palate. How awful. I’m glad it wasn’t worse though.

Oh, No! Glad it wasn’t worse! Sympathy for all of you, especially The 6 year old who can only eay through a straw at Christmas! A friends boy just had his tonsils out a couple of days before Christmas last year and couldn’t eat most things, I think he ate mashed potatoes in the end. Not sure if it would go through a straw though.
