What are you sewing now?

I am sewing a jumper for a dear friend’s 2-year-old daughter. We were at a party together when said friend was oohing and ahing over another child’s outfit. I offered to make a knockoff for her. It is a jumper with a lined skirt and a sweet ruffle peeking out the bottom. I am “mashing” the Music Box and Bubble patterns for the dress. I lengthened the music box bodice by an inch but am going to have the buttons stop at the bottom of the bodice and then add a lining a la the Bubble. I hope it works out as easily as it seems like it will in my head. The jumper will be tan fine-wale corduroy; I’ve got some batiste for the lining and my friend gave me some flowered cotton for the ruffle and bodice accents.

Sounds lovely!
I have made another 3 juggling balls as the start of a Christmas gift for my niece who saw the baby balls I made and commented she would love to learn to juggle.

RTWG sounds so lovely! I hope it all goes together well for you.
I need to sew a all white field trip shirt for Sarah today for an under shirt but yesterday I started on her quilt instead. I am making her the disappearing nine patch with Moda Celebrations charms. I have four blocks done with four to go. It so relaxing to make this, no instructions to read and all straight lines. Perfect when I feel down. : ) It was going to be a surprise for Christmas but I decided that I don’t have enough hours in day to sew when the kiddos are sleeping so they can watch me make their quilts. They all seem to love watching me sew and cut so far. It’s very exciting for see these coming together too!

I’m busy grading patterns because my big girl is growing out of all her clothes at an alarming rate and needs something nice to wear to school.
So yesterday I graded the Music Class Skirt for her and the Playtime leggings. I’m sewing up a skirt for her tonight but the leggings will have to wait as the piece of fabric I had earmarked for her was too short.
Who gave her permission to grow 40″ in 9 years? Certainly not me!

Can you add a piece of something else to the top? I have done this when the piece of fabric I wanted to use for leggings for myself was too short, I cut the piece to the length of what I had and then added seam allowances to both pieces and cut the top from something else I had around. I figured the top of the leggings are rarely if ever seen.
I have been dreaming about the new sewing machine I have coming and free motion quilting. I am getting enthused and pulled out two of my three unfinished quilt tops, the piecing is done but they need sandwiching, basting, quilting and binding. I would like to get at least one done for Christmas.

Lattemama, may I ask what size your regraded music class skirt would be equivalent to? It would be interesting to know because I am in the same boat but when is the time turning to the task? Well not at the moment. It is of course an act of nature to grow but I must say Mother Nature should have passed it by you first to make your daughter grow that much. Here’s hoping she doesn’t have another whopping growth spurt again for a little while. They do slow down a tiny bit but having said that my Imogen has grown a good three inches this year alone so far.
I haven’t even gotten to my still laid out skirt pattern for me yet. Mind you I hope to today and change to denim as I have a navy blue zipper but not a jade green one in the required size – lots of too short and too long zips in the collection. Really need to get to Spotlight asap.
The Christmas sewing preparation is on. I have decided that along with the Harry and his bucket of dinosaurs books, my nephew will have a library bag and reading folder for his pre primary year and if I can find some decent designs they will include, you guessed it, dinosaurs!
I have decided to do table quilts for my sister and mum so have chosen layer cakes to make each with. The teenaged niece and nephew will get bought things this year although I will make my big nephew a quilt as he heads to uni next year after a year long gap. I just have to find the right colours and prints.
Heidi have you jumped onto Leah Day’s site to have a look at all her free motion quilting designs? I am still yet to upload the show winner but it has a great example of how effective they can be (without blowing my own trumpet). When is the big day of new machine collection? And what one is it again?

Gosh, it took me at least a month because I have had no time, but I finally finished my library dress! Yay me. Of course it took forever because there were modifications I wanted to do/try, but they weren’t working out as planned.
Now onto a pair of Art Museum trousers for the boy. Hopefully these won’t take a month!

I have been reading Leah Day it for the past 2 days!
It’s A Bernina B380! I’ll probably get to bring it home in a couple of weeks, I don’t have a specific date yet but I already have a number of ideas to use the new to me features!

Justsewit – I’m not sure what size it would be equivalent to. Do you keep counting up after 12? In that case I think it’s well into 16-territory. I wrote down notes on the Flickr-photo ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/isabeldecibel/10514076376/in/photostream/ ) on how much I added.
I never got around to sew anything last night because we were hit by a pretty severe storm by our standards. Our garden furniture (a solid wood table with two chairs tied to it and covered with a tarp) blew out and toppled over as well as the grill. I don’t think we can salvage it but we’ll have to take a look this weekend when it’s light out when we are home. Since DST ended it’s dark when we leave for work and dark when we get back home.
I hope to get some sewing done tonight.

I was going to only make a white under shirt that turned into this will great with a new pair of pink Afterschool pants- to I going to make two more shirts for Sarah today. I sooo love the field trip shirt pattern! Sarah loves it too. I think the baby needs two or three also. It’s a great habit forming pattern. 😀

I didn’t get sewing done yesterday either. It was seriously hot and I had to help Murray shift machinery to the next paddock as we are three days into harvest. We also had out little pet lamb Missy pass away. She was the one with lupus and alot of character so we were all hard hit – hand rearing animals can be a very bonding experience. Now we just have Rocket who is as lost as anything but will be just fine in time.
So hopefully today I will get the chance to sew something, after I take the kids to school and got to the book fair that is.
Summer this early should be outlawed! Forty degrees today.
Thanks lotta. I will take a look at that when I have the chance. The clothes sewing here needs some serious time allocation.

Showed my niece how to shorten her trousers, a skill I have never needed. 🙂 We then used some designs from Urban Threads and did some quilting practice. It was lovely to sew with someone else! 🙂

You and me the same Heidi! My sister shortened where I didn’t have to! It is fun to sew with others, glad you had fun. So what designs did you try out? I really must take a photo but the quilt that won at the show has “blowing wind” on it (thought it fitting for a pinwheel) dead easy! Oh and those mats she goes on about, are now my new “can’t live without it” item for free motion quilting.
So this afternoon is the only bracket of time spare enough to sew this week so far. I have two skirts cut out but I think I might leave them for tomorrow. I might cut out another table topper pattern and double it to make a table quilt – just so I can hide the fact my dining table is actually meant to be outside! It should take about three hours to make the top and then I can slowly sandwich and quilt it as time allows.
This week has been busy so I am now going to make the most of my sewing time minus kids. But first I must finish vacuuming.
I bought Imogen some books on sewing for her stocking. They are aimed at the tween/ teenage type age group. One is I can sew and the other is I can quilt. They look interesting and easy and I am hoping she will be able to take to them easily without a lot of help.
12 years ago LINKStill slowly working on the mash-up jumper. I have had very little time to sew this week. When I’m done with that I have a few things that need sewing in the next six weeks:
an Art Museum outfit for the baby for Christmas. The houndstooth “shirting” I bought for myself was decidely not a shirting weight, but it will be perfect for a dapper outfit for him.
an Art Museum outfit for my nephew for Christmas. Either out of the same houndstooth (I have loads) or some corduroy I have laying around.
a Christmas dress for younger daughter. I bought some red corduroy and beautiful velvet/lace ribbon for it. I think I am going to use the Bubble pattern but want to make the sleeve gathered so I will have to play with that.
I’m anxiously waiting for my Sewaholic Renfrew pattern to arrive so I can make myself some much-needed fall/winter tops.

I just finished up the three Field trip tops for my little girl. I can’t believe how quick they all went. As no surprise to me the one she likes the most is the one from her fabric stash. When you ladies see the photos you be sure to spot hers out. ; )
I have 8 out 12 disappearing nine patch quilt blocks done. I am hoping to finish up the other four today. This quilt is Sarah’s fro Christmas.
I still have a wool coat to get to and two pairs of After School pants to cut and sew out. To make things even better I received my kit to make Sarah’s Christmas doll. We were going to get her a AM doll but my husband pointed out she is a homemade kind of girl so I am going to be making this Waldorf doll instead. Here is what she’ll look like, other than the hair, I will be making that different. https://www.etsy.com/listing/157732672/pdf-pattern-with-kit-waldorf-baby-doll?ref=sr_gallery_7&ga_search_query=supplies+waldorf+doll+kit&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery
