What are you sewing now?

I’ve finished my blue Trench, and taken pictures.

I can understand not wanting to sew for yourself until you reach the ideal weight, I was there but decided I need practice at modifying patterns and need clothes now. I can always make more when I loose weight 😉

Next up is my first sketch book shirt in yellow cord!

It is difficult to decide when is the right time to make them – my clothes are baggy but not baggy enough to me! I do feel that it will be soon where I am say ok you can make something now but it will be a case of sewing a size smaller as you get there for me as the weight doesn’t just fall off in one go! Last time I dropped the kg’s was just after Noah turned a year old and I did well unfortunately hubby didn’t get the message it was a good time for a number three so the weight went on again anyway! Now it is a case of working harder than ever with the good old fashioned tried true and tested real eating for real women thing (last time I had nutrition in a glass or so it seemed). Put it this way, I will be glad to shed another ten kg’s by end of September (if ya add that up it is 1 a week) and then the clothes will definitely be two sizes too big. I used to sew solidly for me prior to kids but I think sewing little clothes is more fun. I am itching to try the peplum Lisette pattern so will aim to make this as soon as the green light comes on.

The drafting ready to wear craftsy class looks ideal – was looking at my old shirt with holes in it this morning thinking how much I like the style. Just add it to the list of things to make.

Sewed a bucket hat for little an yesterday. I neglected to measure him and assumed he would wear the same as his RTW hat. Thankfully it is too big and not too small. Pretty cute, though. This morning I cut out a pair of cornflower blue puppet show shorts for my niece. We Skyped with them yesterday and she picked out the fabric from my stash … from 6000 miles away. The Internet sure makes living far from relatives easier.

I have some sweet rooster fabric to make a coordinating top but I can’t decide which to make. I want to sew another Ice Cream top but I don’t think the fabric is right for it. What to do.

I decided to make the cargos I had cut next as I don’t need to change the overlocker threads for them. I had to do a trip to spotlight as I had insufficient pink fabric, now I have to wait for it to be washed and dried 🙁

Just finished up a set for my niece – Puppet Show shorts, Lazy Days skirt and a self-drafted top, all coordinating. The self-draft was partly because I had a vision that didn’t match any of my patterns, and partly because I needed to muster up some confidence before tackling the next big project. My girls have requested princess dresses for their birthdays (September and October) – the older one wants Tiana (of Princess and the Frog) and the younger wants Cinderella. I have the appropriate colors in cotton broadcloth, tulle for the poufiness and sparkly synthetic monstrosity fabric for the outer layers. Now I just need to draft up the bodice patterns.

I’m not actually super-excited to do this because older girl is so finicky and just a touch ungrateful. We’re working on that last thing, but most days it feels like I’m not making any progress. Sigh. I showed her the fabrics to be sure that they fit her vision of the dress and after I put them side by side with an image of Tiana she gave them the a-ok. Her only other request is that the dress go “down to my toes.” Prima donna much? I guess that’s just being almost 4.

I have sewer’s block. I had a big list of projects lined up for myself and Stella and now that they are finished I am having a hard time getting inspired. I do have two Ruffled Halters cut out for our upcoming beach trip and a planned pull-on skirt for myself. But after that I’m stumped… I have been churning out long and short knit dresses for myself and I could always do with more since that’s what I live in during warm weather. But that seems a little boring.

What about doing some embellishments on a knit piece? I have these two Alabama Chanin books and have tried out the techniques on scraps but not yet made anything.

Have you looked at the Stitch Society patterns? You could make some Christmas presents.

What?! Sewing for others? As if! 🙂 I do have the wallet pattern that has been languishing for months so I need to make one of those.

I actually remembered that I bought the first Drape Drape book a while back. So now I am conjuring images of amazing jersey creations and losing hours on the Tessuti website. I have read that the garments are easy to construct but that tracing the patterns can take HOURS. Has anyone made anything from these books?

I haven’t but they look interesting!

I have them all and have never made anything. Story of my life!

I love the idea of those drape drape dresses but haven’t dabbled myself. Jorth has and her blog is great.

I had another bout of insomnia so I got up and cut two pairs of trousers for Hugo (groan-nearly 3m a pair) and a Deer&Doe blouse for Elsa from City Weekend Corner Florist in lemon.

The Twins are choosing clothes for the end of year camp and want me to sew and then hide them so they have them new to wear.

Next is another Lisette Portfolio for me. I love that pattern to bits and pieces.

Working on the cargos, but I took a bit of extra time to make a tutorial of my double knees. The tablet makes it so much easier to do as I can take the photo’s, load to fliker, edit and annotate all on one device, as I sew!

I need to mend the blue cargos and the denim cargos at the side pockets. For some reason I can never anchor the topstitching thread enough!
