3 pages!? Wow! Alot of notes. I was almost through sewing this quilt top when the phone rang …. 3 hours later I am still not finished! Think I will do some late hours tonight.

Yes three pages, including diagrams measurements and the order of the changes! The info is the Cumulation of a number of years of research about how best to dress MY body and what changes I need to make patterns to make me look great. As this is my first ottobre I want to put in the time to make it work 🙂

In fact there is four pages If you include “the five obstructions” page inspired by Lighning’s Blog!

Which issue are you using? I have a few woman’s issues (ottobre that is) but havent really made anything so I will be interested in how your “results to the investigation” experiment works out.

?! Heidi, thanks for the shout out. What’s the plan? No straight stitches, on location, in the dark, no pins?

Sewed the cuff buttons on the Book Report this am, and it’s finished! And even if I do say so myself, it looks very sweet. Did lots of extra topstitching as befits a winter tunic.

As you ladies can see from my last Flickr post, I made the Music Class skirt in pinwale corduroy, and the pockets were a real hit with Miss 6, particularly, as one leg is in plaster from hip to hock so trousers are a problem so a new skirt was appreciated. I’d actually forgotten about the plaster, but took the credit anyway. Have just cut out my first Clever Charlotte pattern, and hope to sew it up tomorrow.

Went to a small quilt exhibition today – about 20 quilts made by one woman over the last 8 yrs or so. Very impressive (most of them), and it was easy to pick the older ones because of the patterns, and fabric colours used. Like realising how much children have grown by looking at their toddler photos, it’s very interesting to see how “quilting fashions” have also changed over the years.

So glad to hear that everyone’s sewing is progressing well, and that you have finally had some rain, J.

PS: I found the Music Class Blouse a rather arduous sew – I put it down to it being a long time since I sewn a proper shirt, but the mother was very impressed with the pintucks, and I was impressed with how the collar turned out – a really nice shape, and roll to it. Next time, I’ll organise a front facing. The mother really liked the press studs, with the buttons on top. Isn’t it funny when an ‘old’ idea strikes someone else as really ‘novel’? I confessed that I was genuinely afraid of mucking up my work with badly done buttonholes. But between us, press studs, and buttons take just as much as time to work – if not more – as buttonholes. I had to laugh as the Mum told me that she really liked the buttons down the back of the Music Box Pinafore because her daughter can’t get out of it herself. Not sure what to make of that; must be a parent – secret -business thing.

BTW in case it’s *not* a Dogme joke, I apologize for laughing!

You’re onto it Sarvi. Click on my name for blog link.

Imagine if you had to make a garment and were only allowed to sew with the machine in reverse……..

My five obstructions are related more to fit than construction.

    1. Use Ottobre

    2. Do Fba for knit fabric

    3. Large hip adjustment

    4. Length adjustment – lengthen back waist

    5. Length adjustment – lengthen top of dress to hit at a more flattering point.

I am using the latest women’s Ottobre Spring/summer 2/2013 sewing the dress on the front cover, dress number 1.

Lightning, the idea was really helpful for me to work out what was stopping me sewing for myself and to make it a challenge rather than an excuse!

My pattern is all traced waiting for me to start alterations.

Ha, that’s great! I guess to get into the spirit of it I’d have to take away the five things I rely on most. No pattern/instructions, no internet, no linen or cotton, no asking for help, and no buying any new gadgets!

All my mods are done and I have added seam allowances so I am ready to cut and sew in the morning 🙂

Come on Sarvi have a go!

Yay Tamara!! I plan on quilting and knitting this fall after the move, I can’t wait to see it.

To my surprise the internet is still up but should be shut off tomorrow morning. Right now I ma in a Tea party mode. I have sewn a dress with lace for Sarah with matching doll size, and a short set with some mods for Sarah too. I ma moving onto Caspian’s blue short set and I decided I wanted to make him a brown pair and a denim pair as well. I am also working on a sweet white and pink baby one too. I hope to have all these done before the move plus two white linen music class blouses for Sarah and another white linen sketchbook shirt for Caspian as well. This should give me a great start on their fall clothes.

Wow! I’m speechless on the amount of sewing but is the move about a week away? You’ll get it done in that time surely.

Sharon the pattern came from Simplify by Camille Roskelley. A very simple but intricate looking interlocking grid type pattern. I havent decided on what colour to use for quilting it yet but the back is the bird print in the maroon and blue colourway (as by the time I got my act together the fabric was running out!)

It is nice to do something different and even though I found I had to cut my last two strips to fill the space properly (when it said to use 38 not 40) I am quite happy with the turn out. I won’t be quilting it yet though as I want to order the thread for the hashtag quilt at the same time – cuzco for that one.

Today I also plan to finally get the top and wadding stuck together for the Meg’s garden quilt. I really need to get cracking with that one. That is if I am not “required” elsewhere.
