What are you sewing now?

Just my luck! The proper pj fabric turned up yesterday so will stick it in the wash while I work on this dress. Haven’t gotten very far – bodice lining check! Laying out the pattern on the main fabric and have decided to do a continuous lay of the skirt as we were discussing with Nicole – because of the pattern it would look better and because this dress has to be more twirly apparently (although there doesn’t seem to be turning in the routine). Anyway, with a different layout in place and the fact this print is non directional I’m having a ball putting it together.
This thing has to be finished – no exceptions – by tomorrow night. I have butterflies to stitch and make into paper weights!
11 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI have finished my 65 stockings next onto pj’s! I will only be making four pairs for now then I have to finish the teachers stocks. I have never done the french seams so I am hoping that I won’t take long.
I am planing Sweet pea’s birthday already. I want to go all out on this one, a total princess dress! All in pink and white silk dupioni with white pearl beads on it. I want the dress to go all the way down to tthe floor too. Sweet pea is princess nuts right now so I want it to be a dress for her to remeber. I am so excited about it!!
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitHow did your serger go Sharon? Little boys and fiddling with things – have had my own experience today with just that very thing! Darling son decided it was a good idea to erase all my bookmarks on my iPad! Not happy. now I have to remember every site I visit! And to boot it won’t add any new ones. Am researching.
Of course it is really late and my hubby is snoring his head off – past my bed time but can’t sleep – too mad!
I am up to hand sewing on this dress that needs to be worn tomorrow evening. It is looking great I must say but have had a not so smooth transition with getting it done. Lots of unpicking and resorting of collars and zippers that wouldn’t behave no matter how careful. Anyone would think this was some posh get up in some designer fabric of huge expense. Really have to stop being so pedantic and just sew it!
I love the collar for view b on this dress and I love even more the tulle underskirt. This is a view b which is ast turning into my favourite version.
11 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesIt’s still broke Tamara, It will have to wait till after the New Year. We were told it will cost about $100 to fix it. Yucky luck to me!
I can’t wait to see this dress too! I will be useing this pattern for Sarah’s birthday dress.
11 years ago LINKSherry @mim22Oh no, you poor thing. If you lived in Oz I could lend you mine. Not the time of year to be down a machine, but when it is fixed it will sew beautifully, maybe you could cut out lots of projects and be ready to go when it comes home.
11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI have drafted the pattern for my last 3 Harry Potter robes sz 16, 7, 3 (just the hood on the size 3 to go), I decided to do all the drafting then all the cutting, so I can just sew it all together.
Mama_Knowles french seams are fairlt quick, its only two passes on the machine with a stright stitch.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh dear! I was hoping it had come good.
With bookmarks restored I can now turn my attention to getting on with the hand stitching. Armholes are done and I realised I didn’t sew the bodice lining down before I attached the lining and tulle so that is a hand sewing effort too. I have also decided to possibly handset the hem of the dress also because I like the invisible look and I can’t decide if I like the look of red or white on the top – you’d see both.
Today is going to be another hot one so the sooner I start the sooner I can get other things sorted. The red zip turned up at 4.30pm! A bit late for me to use it as the white one was in but I can use it for the other dress I was planning to make also – but not for tonight you understand.
Picture Nottinghill fabric in red green and white by Joel Dewberry and you have the print.
11 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5What am I sewing now?
Tulle. And cat hair.
Yippee!
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitSounds intriguing Nicole!
One dress done? Check! Teacher gifts? Check!
Ninety minutes until another trip to town plus 30 minutes of travel equals “this better be a good show”
Tomorrow is free dress day – oh help!
11 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesSounds like you have your sewing going well Tamara! I still need to make teacher girfts…. I can’t wait to see Nicole!
I am working on five sets of pj’s right now. I hope to get them done by tomorrow night for pj day at school.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh! I forgot to say…. I bought the teacher gifts! Two little Christmas tree ornaments -angels of learning – they were holding books. I had grand plans but they seem to be flying out of the window this year at a much faster rate!
We came home early from the Presentation night as I thought I had a sleepy daughter. It turns out she was upset because she didn’t get a special award. It seems to affect my kids and it is something we are constantly working on to make sure that they are liked by their teachers and that the qualities that are looked for in the children who are chosen have to be strong, as in all the time. Maybe next year.
So the next project is … Getting on with much needed pjs for a nephew and the doctors costume I keep harping on about. I need to get it posted pronto as we don’t have much time left and I am starting to go into panic mode!
11 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaVery little sewing got done over the weekend. Took boys to lunch with Santa at P’s school, then to a tiny little indie craft fair. Sunday afternoon, we snuck in the model train display. There’s so much fun stuff do in the city for Christmas that I just want to spend time with them instead of sewing all day. I did manage to set a zipper and baste in the collar. Sleeves are ready to set next. After that it should go quickly.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitWell last day of school here and miss 10 went off wearing her voile pink floral Icecream top and her pink hula hoop skirt – all cute and trendy and grownup!
I think once I have done the nephew’s gift, I will endeavour to get some more of this combination done and maybe have them ready for under the tree… I hope.
11 years ago LINKkatybellabug @katybellabugI am the same as you Tamara, just finished all the gifts and sent them off. Moving on to Christmas party dresses for my girls (both Bubble Dresses) followed up by a Hopscotch outfit for my eldest for under the tree and an (as yet unknown) new outfit for the little one.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOk I need elf help! Literally!
Nephew present still in need of sewing – it was supposed to be a clean the house day today!
Hubby has decided we are going to my parents for Christmas and now instead of 7 nights to sew, it has been dramatically reduced to 5! (I forgot about the community Christmas party on Friday).
So with all the fabric the kids have chosen for their Christmas clothes and a present for the nephew still to make, someone else will have to sleep for me!
Where’s the Santa’s helper when you need it?
