A very big welcome to you!
The Playtime dress is just lovely, I have a step by step tute (not that you will probably need it) but if you fancy a peep, its here http://www.pinterest.com/pin/73676143878416947/.
I warn you though, once you make up an Oliver+S PDF (digital pattern) you will be spoilt for any others, they go together so well and very accurately!
I think you will be absolutely delighted with your new pattern, these are the loveliest ones I have ever sewn.
Enjoy, and welcome again!
10 years ago LINKNCMimi @NCMimiNicole, Thanks so much for your reply….I loved your link and will definitely check back to it when I start sewing the dress. Yours is fabulous — looks wonderful on your beautiful daughter — the fabric is perfect!
10 years ago LINKHarmony @HarmonyHi, everyone!
I’ve been lurking for a bit and decided it was time to introduce myself.
I’m Kristi, and I live in Texas with my husband, 2 daughters 11 and 7, and one 8-month old mostly Lab puppy.
I’m new to sewing, having only bought the machine to sew Girl Scout patches onto vests. Then I figured since I have it, I might as well use it and made some simple skirts for the very leggy 11 year old. Then I stumbled across this site and oh, my goodness!! My sewing has improved by leaps and bounds – except for tonight. I’m talking “put down the scissors and back away slowly” bad juju. I will try again this weekend because popover PJs two ways will be so cute, comfy, and above all cool when I get them sorted.
Anyway, I really enjoy reading the discussions and getting a glimpse of what is possible with a great pattern and a little imagination.
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Hi Kristi, a very big welcome to you!
I am so glad you are putting that machine to such good use. I agree, my sewing improved so much once I switched to predominately O+S patterns, and it keep improving.
Its so exciting to have new faces in our group. Please feel free to joint in any sewing discussions or have chat in the Current Affairs thread.
10 years ago LINKAlison Cummins @Alison CumminsI’ve been sewing on and off for over 40 years, since I was seven. I mostly went for effect and fit, not polish. Since I was only sewing for myself I didn’t worry about whether someone else would like it. Recently I’ve acquired a grandchild to sew for and have been taking full advantage! She and I don’t live on the same continent so a couple of times a year I send her a collection of things, wait for pictures to be emailed and think about fit and sizing for next time.
With Oliver + S patterns I can focus carefully on polish because I’m confident that all the pieces will fit together perfectly and that I’ll be able to get the little details right, so the way I approach sewing generally has changed and I’m a little less slapdash.
I particularly enjoyed perfectly matching the print on this Family Reunion:

10 years ago LINKWagyu Burger @Wagyu BurgerHi everyone! I’ve been browsing the Flickr group for ages but have not come here until now. Glad to see so many Aussies 🙂 I’m from Sydney and sew mostly for my 15 month old chubba bubba. I’ve been doing the LTTS Challenge verrrrry slowly and have really enjoyed looking at everyone’s projects. And since I noticed the VW talk, I drive a Bug (yes it’s baby friendly!).
10 years ago LINKjay_1965vw @jay_1965vwHello fellow Aussie beetle driver 🙂
10 years ago LINKharrisinaus @harrisinausHi All,
Another Aussie for you, I have been using O+S for about a year. And made a few of the School Days Coat and am just mixing it up with the jump rope Dress. I am actually using the top half of the jump rope with a circle skirt as Miss 5.5 was VERY specific about the skirt. I plan another full jump rope for miss 4 on completion. I also recently got the Trenchcoat pattern for Mr 2 and can’t wait. Oh I am in the Royal Australian Navy, full time as well, so I sew when I can. I also quilt a little, and I have been recently making gowns for the Australian chapter of the NICU Helping Hands organisation. SO, I’m a little busy. I also confess, i have NEVER sewn anything for myself, ever. 🙂
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitHarrisinaus Hello and welcome! Where abouts are you based? Land or sea job? I just find this fascinating. There a lot of ladies whose hubbies are in some way part of the Armed forces but I don’t believe we have any ladie who are part of it all aswell (and I sincerely apologise if there are because there are just so many people popping in and out). I’m in the west and that’s why I was wondering.
So you have two little kiddies and sew for the NICU – is this like the old wee care program? It also sounds as though your daughter is becoming quite the designer. Creativity definitely runs in your family then! How long have you actually been sewing for? And yes it can be rather daunting to branch into new sewi g waters so you will find out that sewing so,ething for yourself is just like sewing a grown up version of something you would make your children – same skills required same techniques just a bigger sized pattern and more fabric.
You’ll find lots of tips on fitting around here too – so,ewhat important in general actually.
Speaking of VW, it was my dream to have a punk convertible beetle as my first car – alas my first set of wheels was a volvo!! I still love the beetles though and plan to buy one when I’m an empty nester (it will have to be able to sustain our gravel roads though).
Wagyu burger tell us more! How long has it been since you started sewing? Would you consider yourself beginner, intermediate or advanced? How many Oliver and s patterns have you made for your little 15 month old cherub? Just going through LTTS fantastic?!
Am I the only Sandgroper on here? Surely not! I thought there were some other fellow West Aussies.
Welcome welcome! Lovely to have you.
10 years ago LINKWagyu Burger @Wagyu BurgerHi harrisinaus! I am in awe that you are in the navy full time, have 3 kids and still have time to do all that sewing! Have you THOUGHT about sewing for yourself? I must confess I am totally uninterested in sewing anything for me, all those fitting issues seem so challenging.
Justsewit, I have been sewing for a few years, although I still consider myself a beginner 🙂 Out of the Oliver + S patterns I have made the Puppet Show shorts, the Sunny Days shorts, the bucket hat, and the Roller Skate dress. I currently have fabric cut out for another pair of Puppet Show shorts and 2 hats. And I’m *thinking* about the Puppet Theatre in the LTTS book, which seems like a big project and not something I EVER thought I would be sewing, but for some reason that is the project that is calling out to me right now. How about you, how long have you been sewing for?
10 years ago LINKsewgirl23 @sewgirl23Hi all! I’ve been adoring Oliver + S patterns from afar, and just went off the deep end the other night and ordered 8! I’ve been sewing for 30 years, and spent 17 professionally in bridal and interior design. Taking some time off to have kids now, and really excited that I can sew for them. 🙂 Hello everyone, and I hope to make some good sewing buddies here!
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5A very big welcome to you!
As you are all ready a very experienced sewer you will adore all the extra detail in these lovely patterns.
I look forward to picking your brains with the wonderful sewing expertise you will bring to our sewing table.
10 years ago LINKneedlewoman @needlewomanI second Nicole’s welcome to you all, and to your various experiences sewing – O + S and anything else. 8 Patterns – wow!! Have lots of fun with them, and with this forum.
10 years ago LINKsewgirl23 @sewgirl23Haha! Yes, I did go a little crazy. But that’s always my way. 😉 I just get too excited. Already cut out and halfway through sleepover pajamas, washed up the fabric for the ice cream social dress, and just pulled fabric out of my stash and bought toggles for the school days jacket! Looking forward to sewing for my 2 year old daughter, and my baby boy due in January.
