4 ply silk would be AMAZING! And I’ve worn my Cannes Trousers to the opera several times. Highly recommend! Both comfortable and elegant. Enjoy! I’ve been to the Vienna Opera several times now and it’s a wonderful experience!

Thank you! I’m going to the Vienna Opera so thought this might be a classy option.
Would it work in a 4-ply silk? Looking for dressy but not shiny. -

Hello! The total width of the legs depends on the size you’re making but the size 6 is apprximately 40″ all the way around. You can also use this tutorial if you want to make them narrower.
I used silk crepe-back satin for the blue trousers. The drape is…[Read more]

It’s basically what the tutorial is doing, actually. If you look at the end result they’ve essentially raised the seam line and curved it a bit more. It’s just a fancier way of doing it. I would suggest that you watch for drag lines that indicate a necessary adjustment elsewhere, but I think your end result will be very similar if you do it the s…[Read more]

Hello! That tutorial will probably give you good results. What I would suggest in your case, however, is that you open up all the seams at the bicep to allow the gaps to show you where it wants more room. You can probably give the extra space at the seams by adding a little more seam allowance, especially at the seam along the shoulder and top of…[Read more]

I have nearly completed my calico toile of the Yanaka Jacket. It’s looking very promising but I realise that I will need a full bicep adjustment. I nearly always need one! I noted your reply to Susan but I’m unsure exactly how to go about this kind of bicep adjustment because I’ve never made a sleeve like this before. Here is a link to the only…[Read more]

Just how wide are these pants?
And what kind of silk did you use for the deep blue sample? I love the drape. -

For the lace ruffle I simply attached a row of wide, gathered lace to the upper edge of the hem facing. You could also create a separate skirt if you prefer, and attach it to the dress with the outer skirt. I hope that helps!

I am using the building block pattern book to design dresses for my granddaughters. They chose the scalloped hem with the lace ruffle. I see the directions for the scalloped him (on page 130) but cannot find any directions to add the lace ruffle. Can you help? Thank you.

Hi @pegalot
The instructions for finishing the bell sleeve are on page 3. There are detailed steps there that show how the sleeve is finished using the sleeve facing. -

For two days I’ve been puzzling over how to finish the bell sleeve hem. Is is simply a 1/4 inch turned twice and topstitched? I’ve zoomed in on blog posts and can’t tell if this is how it was done.
I’m returning to sewing after nearly 40 years and can usually figure things out, but I am baffled.
