@sahmcolorado I think I will be doing this for my oldest girl too! She still takes a 2 or 3 width in the dress patterns but she needs 6 for length.
lol @Jess M. that is quite an impressive stack you have going!

Are you noting down all your interesting pregnancy dreams Masha? I didn’t, but then I didn’t have them.
Just got a message that friends of ours have had baby number three last week and we missed the whole thing – was planning a hosptial visit but they apparently are now at home. Number three is a baby girl which is thrilling enough in itself. I…[Read more]

I love the badminton (modified). Added more of an a-line skirt and a ruffle at the hem. She loves it too plus it gives me an excuse to use all the character fabrics that I don’t love for her to wear in public!

Uhm I am about to embark on this. Though some patterns will be size 4 because we can still fit a few.
I think I may be a bit ambitious for this spring/summer.

I have some cute largish print fabric (dragons!) that DD loves and I want to make a nightgown with it—it’s woven fabric not knit/jersey. Any suggestions?? I’m thinking either swingset or a sleeveless 2+2 lengthened. Any other pattern suggestions?

@meleliza – oh no! i actually dont miss not having a girl to sew for – there are lovely things one can sew for little boys, especially while the are still a bit small, ive made the tea party playsuit no fewer than 8 times now (granted i have twins so its just one in each size).
i love…[Read more]

I can’t wait to see them!
@sosew I’ve been there and remember not having any girls to sew for. 🙁 But you know, boys really just wear pants and tshirts. There’s a lot you can do with the existing patterns to change them up. I like sewing costumes for my boys and pjs. Recently, I’ve also started making them ties for special occasions.
Or, you…[Read more]

Fiber Club! 10 years agoOh yes, I love embroidery and cross stitch too. Nothing can go wrong, you just unpick the stitch if you don’t like it. And simple looks good too. In fact, I liked a cross stitch I did so much I had it framed and hung it in our newly renovated vestibule. I’m working on a Christmas red work one, but I I end up putting it away out of season so it may…[Read more]

Would it be possible to introduce the patterns first so everyone can buy fabric etc before they go on sale?

Sorry to keep you in suspense!
Everything is printed, and now it’s time for the process of marrying up the jobs from the different printers and getting them assembled. Then they need to ship back across the country and get warehoused before we can release them.
So it will probably be another couple weeks, but it could be sooner if everyone does…[Read more]

Anyone else sewing size 5?? It’s still freezing here, but today I’m working on a Liberty swingset blouse. I have some yellow linen cut for the skirt, but I need to order lining for it. The Puppet Show blouse and shorts are done, but it’s still too cold to wear. I’ll have to layer it like the recent blog post, which I totally copied.

Basting will still be your friend, as Nicole says. Also, for a hand picked zipper, a 1/2″ seam allowance isn’t really enough. I widen the center back seam allowance to 1″. I prefer the YKK lightweight or children’s zipper to the coats and clark ones. It’s more flexible and interferes less with the natural drape of the fabric.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Marking the markings–argh!! in the forum off topic 10 years ago
I’ve gone right off cutting notches as sometimes the seam allowance is small and a vigorous notch could land me in trouble!
I make all markings with ceramic pencil (cloverline) about the only fabric it struggles with is fluffy wool or fleece.
To mark dots within the pattern I stick a pin through all layers, pattern tracing and fabrics and then…[Read more] - Load More
