Harmony, I’ve never made those shorts, but that’s the kind of mistake I make all the time.
I finished the messenger bag! It came together in a night, and it’s super-cute. Now I have to decide if my older dd urgently needs her own messenger bag, or if I should go straight to the Negroni.

I sewed up two pairs of City Gym shorts for summer pjs.
Then I attempted to sew a pair of Sunny Day shorts with added length in a lovely dark blue linen, only to find when I sewed the first section together that I had drafted two fronts. 🙁
I’m no longer allowed to draft patterns after 10:00. 🙂

I’m having a big clear out as bits and bobs are coming out of storage. Are there any patchwork/quilters who would welcome a variety of bits? Ideally in the UK/EU but doesn’t have to be.
I also have some more ‘textile arts’ bits and bobs, like scraps of multicoloured leather, silks of different kinds that would be perfect for creative textiles.…[Read more]

I made a Carousel dress for Liddy (11),today.
I used sand coloured velvet/uncut cord (not sure what it is) with red topstitching. It has quite a medieval feel to it.

I would like this pattern in the larger sizes. Any one know where I could find one or anyone with one in their stash they no longer need?

I did it (on the lisette market blouse) And I am happy. Thanks for the encouragement to give it a go. I often lack confidence to tackle these things.
After thinking I decided to add a gathering row to the first pass area so I had three rows of gathering. Then when I pinned the first time I made sure I pinned the final stitching line and that it…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoI received my city stroll skirt in the mail. It made me so happy to have my actual hands on an actual piece of tissue that I can actually use right away! Just so everyone knows – it is the same high quality production we know from the Oliver + S patterns.

if your fabric doesn’t hold a press well, you might need to pin a lot yes. But you might also try pressing without steam.

I do it all the time. However, on a really very poofy sleeve, it can get too bulky. What pattern are you working with?
As for tips, it’s not that much different than a regular French seam. I tend to use a lot of hand basting when I set sleeves, particularly tiny ones. I also feel I get a better finish with French seams when they’re set in the…[Read more]
