One piece of advice I’d offer for linen trousers is that you press the rise seam allowances to one side and edgestitch the rise seam to strengthen it and to prevent “grinning” when the weave opens up because of stress on the seam. Does that makes sense? I can post a photo…[Read more]

The Swingset Skirt has been really popular because it’s quite full and can also be reversible… That might be a good place to start?

The kid I sew for has recently expressed an interest in skirts that are good for twirling. What are your favorite Oliver and S patterns for achieving a twirly skirt? (I’m looking for ones that come in childrens’ size 5.) What about fabrics? And any general tips on types of patterns to look for? Thanks!

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Question about lullaby layette shoulder darts in the forum oliver + s: lullaby 3 years ago
Hi Bonnie, I’ve only ever made the jacket in stretch fabrics and from memory I’ve just used a straight stitch everywhere. I’d certainly use a single straight stitch at the shoulder dart so they press flat more easily.

Hi all!
I have been working on my first Fira dress, using the body measurements and finished garment measurements in the tables. To my suprise, the garment ended up being too small, and I had to throw my beautiful fabric in the bin…. I wanted to understand and when I measure the bust, hip and waist in the pattern, from pattern line to pattern…[Read more] -

It has been 20 years since i made my last bishop and I am still fumbling my way through the process.
