It should work just fine. Things to think of: the neckline facing may show through too much with a thin knit. You could consider a full bodice lining layer if your fabric is really thin. Or maybe bind the neckline rather than use the facing.
As it is, it should look fine so long as you use a lightweight interfacing on the facing. You don’t want…[Read more] -

Just going to work through your maths out loud…
Panel is 2 &3/4″ remove 1/4″ seam allowance from each side > remove 1/2″ = 2&1/4″.
Halve that: = 1&1/8″Now, each side had a seam allowance with the panel, but that will stay to be the seam allowance for the side seam.
So, maths correct. The side seam will end up being in the middle of where the…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI forget what it calls for–1/4″, maybe? In general, you don’t want to reduce the size of the shoulder pad because it will cause the shoulders to droop more. The shoulder pad is there to give the jacket structure, and if you reduce/eliminate it it might not hang correctly because extra room was built into the shoulder to accommodate it. Does that…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoPerfect, thank you! Should I be using a thinner shoulder pad since the coat will be much less bulky?

I’ve made several knit pj sets for my kids using the Schoolbus T and the Nature Walk pants or the Sandbox pants, but I thought I would use the Parachute Sweatpants this time. Because of the fabric pattern, however, I thought I would omit the side placket, and now I’m worried about my modification. I measured the placket piece (2 3/4″), tried to…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI see no reason why you couldn’t use a lighter weight fabric for this pattern. It think it will be great!

Hello! The dress works great with knits, and I’ve seen lots of photos of it made with jersey, etc. I’ve even used sweatshirt fleece for it. If you check the Oliver + S Flickr group you’ll probably find lots of images, although I can’t comment on the weight of your fabric. You’ll have to be the judge of that one.

So DD wanted some lovely 4 way stretch knit. I am wondering would it work for this dress? it seems a tad thin for the top bodice part but drapes well for the skirt?

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoHello! I’ve recently acquired some beautiful merino suiting and would like to make a light coat. The cut of the Lisette Butterick pattern is exactly what I’m looking for but, as I understand, it’s intended for heavier fabrics. Could I get away with sewing it in the suiting or would I be better off finding a different pattern? I really like Liesls…[Read more]

Hello all,
I would just like to submit a bit of information that has really helped me out with printing. A friend of mine told me about a program through HP that has changed the way I print! HP (Hewlett Packard) has printers that are set up to use a subscription service. The subscriptions are very affordable, $2.99/mo, $4.99/mo, and $9.99/mo. All…[Read more]

The last one or two pages will be set up to print the pattern on 36″ paper. The rest of the document will be set up to print the pattern on letter paper.
I print my patterns at home on A4 paper and stick them together. - Load More
