You could really have fun with this dress – make it as fancy or as casual as you like. I made one in corduroy and am planning one in denim. But I also think it would be great in prints or plains and it’s been proven to look really special in silk.
You can use small or medium prints with this but I personally wouldn’t go too large on the prints for…[Read more] -

What size did you make? If it’s a larger size, you should just be able to shorten at the top–trim 1″ (for example) off the top edge before sewing the waistband on. If it’s a smaller size, watch for the curve of the rise, since you don’t want to start cutting into it. If you’re starting to get into the curve on the smaller sizes, you may need to…[Read more]

Finally got to cutting a toile and I went with the size 8 with the length of the 12.
I am very pleased as is my daughter. I took a cm or so off all the seams above the waist as we wanted it quite fitted. If I make it for play I will go with the standard size 8 with a little length.
The pattern was completely true to her…[Read more] -

Hey that’s quite alright Emily, you are fitting into your budget and went with the best you can afford and that really is all that matters. It did the job. When you do get the “German” interfacing (I don’t really know why they call it that) you could keep it for the really special projects. It lasts a while because you use it on collars and things…[Read more]

I am not a student but I can understand how that my seem a lot if you are watching your budget.
The more sewing I did,I found I wanted the best quality notions to make my garments look as good as possible for as long as possible.

OK so I looked at the German interfacing and just couldn’t bring myself to buy it yet because of the price (about $10, thanks so much for recommending it though!). I did purchase some sew-in interfacing ($2) though and tried it out on the collar of the puppet show dress. I found the sew in the work very well, it was just like adding another…[Read more]

thanks, I looked on the website and found the German interfacing, I am going to order some and try it out. I have never used sew in interfacing. Thanks for your input I am off to Joann’s to buy some SF101 and test out some sew in interfacing along with buying the German kind…here’s to testing testing testing!

I like to use lightweight woven interfacing that is iron on. I get it from Farmhouse fabrics and it is called “German” or “baby” interfacing. I’ve been using it ever since I first started with the smocking over 10 years ago and even though it would seem only useful for heirloom sewing I have had huge success carrying it over into the regular…[Read more]

I am putting together my supplies to make the Puppet Show dress (the entire pattern is traced onto freezer paper, whew!) and am wondering which interfacing I should use for the collar. I usually use Pelon SF101 fusible, but am wondering if that would cause the fabric to bubble a bit after much use, I have a couple purses with this problem. I…[Read more]

Thanks Johanna, I have not used this pattern so I have not studied the pattern pieces. It’s on my list to work on this summer. Thanks for the information. 🙂

Carol, in this case, I wouldn’t raise the bottom of the arm hole. Since this pattern is very narrow through the underarms, it shouldn’t need it at all.
