Unless the fabric is very thick, there’s no drawback at all. Why would there be a drawback? But you don’t need them in the bodice, just the skirt. I use them for the sleeves too, though, something I learned from the heirloom sewing crowd. And, if you cut the skirt in one big piece, then you only need to seam the center back. Even easier.

I have made it twice Florabell.
The only concern I would have is the bulk of the seams. If you use a fine fabric and grade the seam properly if would be fine. As the bodice is fully lined, I don’t know that you would actually need to.
We have a few girls that love their French seam finishes. I am sure they would have something helpful to add. -

As a sewist dilligently trying to use up stashed fabric, I often use Fat Quarters for pockets, (one FQ is just the right size to cut 4 pocket pieces for the Playtime, and similar patterns), and in particular, for lining bodices, and yokes. The last 3 outfits posted on Flickr are definitely cases in point – especially the Playsuit. The pants were a…[Read more]

I cut a PlayTime dress size 2T with the length of a size 4 from 1 metre of Kokka linen. AND it was a directional print.
*BUT I had to cut the pockets from another fabric.* -

I made a suede version for Tildy and used brass drizabone studs.
I washed that quite a few times in the machine (on a wool wash with shampoo and conditioner) and the suede is still in good repair. -

My school days coat is on its second owner and I haven’t actually had issues with the leather coming out. It is tricky for my son to fasten. Also, I didn’t use interfacing on the front facings on the coat and it hangs a little too limply. I don’t remember if I skipped it or whether the instructions didn’t call for it, but if I made another, I…[Read more]

I know that feeling. I hope you can find the time for something like this in plus sizes soon. I just found out I’m expecting, and there isn’t a lot out there for pregnant AND plus size!
Also, I don’t know if you take outside volunteers for testers, I would love to be part of that! -

Excited — just ordered blue and metallic (they look like the best match for grey) snaps. So many babies to sew for, can’t wait to get my groove on once I know all the preferences from the moms.

Oh yes, we’d love to add plus sizes to our patterns! It’s one of my goals for 2014. Unfortunately, it’s not a simple process and requires development of entirely new patterns, along with separate grading, testing, etc. We can’t simply grade the existing patterns up to make more sizes–it’s really like starting from scratch. And with my plate as…[Read more]

One size 4 Fairy tale dress from exactly one yard of 60″ wide fabric, sleeves, collar and all! The trick is to cut the skirt selvedge to selvedge in one piece. The size 4 skirt is exactly 60″ wide, so it worked perfectly. But if you’re short on fabric, I think it would work for size 5 and 6 too, it would just be a little less full. After that I…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Just wondering: eliminating back seam? in the forum liesl + co: cappuccino dress + tunic 11 years ago
Yes, you can absolutely remove the back seam! We added in rather late in the process because 1) it gives a little more shaping and 2) it allows you to use less fabric because you don’t need to cut on the fold. But by all means, change it! Our first samples were cut on fold and worked just fine. I prefer it without the seam, too, but fabric economy…[Read more]

Ooh an FBA included? Count the girls in!

It’s a good thing too, because the front is a really unusual shape and the FBA instructions included are specific to this pattern and not like any I’ve ever seen before. But as I said, it does work very well.

Thanks for all of that… I’ll leave it in when I make my muslin one and go from there. 🙂
