I thought this might be a good catch-all thread for folks looking for something specific that they can’t easily find at their favorite local or online shop. I was looking for Thinsulate, and found this shop online:

Anybody used them?

I am not familiar with the Sulky so I can’t compare, but I believe this is the one I use for collars and cuffs — would that be about the weight you want?

The interfacing I normally use is a roll of Sulky fusible interfacing. It is rather silky and provides almost no body. Just stablization for the buttonholes and collars but not much structure. In a Clutch calls for a lightweight fusible.
Is this too lightweight? Do I want something with more body? This Sulky will provide little or no body in my…[Read more]

Done! Thanks so much for the help and inspiration. Attaching picture of the bias collar attachment, too.
(I accidentally attached the front backwards, so I topstitched the reversed tucks to make it look intentional. Hee hee.)

I don’t have the pattern in front of me, but that sounds right. The only thing I would make sure you do it, measure! Measure the pattern and measure your son. 🙂 I have two boys, though they are similar in height, one carries it in the upper torso and the other, in the legs! 🙂 One needs things lengthened above the waist, the other, below.…[Read more]

Yep! That’s what I would do. Surely you would only need to add one more on?

The collar I drafted turned out to be a little large for the neckline, and so I discovered an advantage to attaching the collar with a bias strip, for I simply moved the collar a bit outward from the neck opening, then trimmed the neck opening (making a slightly larger neck hole) to match it. I then basted it in place, then sewed on the bias…[Read more]

My nearly 9 year old measures size 8 in the chest, but is 58″ tall – the tallest that a size 12 accommodates. I’m thinking of a size 10 (for room to grow) but with extra length so he can wear this for more than one year.
It seems I should add the length at the side notches and reconnect the darts. However, this will impact button spacing. So…[Read more]

Thanks, Masha. That’s what I guessed was most likely. And Heidi, that is a beautiful version! I love how you used piping. My red dress would have been better if I’d put piping at the hem like that. I see lots more piping in my future.
About the sleeves, I did exactly what you said, though I used the sleeve for the Apple Picking dress rather than…[Read more]

I just finished raw appliqueing on a cheap-o white T shirt. I did a snow flake pattern using some left over blue scraps. I wanted a “winter” shirt as opposed to a “Christmas” T, because then you only get a month out of that t shirt. I find my self using a “boys” t shirt instead of a girls. Boys shirts are cut with a longer torso, and my…[Read more]

Becky, I just lengthened the existing sleeves, tapering them a bit at the bottom since my daughter is very thin. Glad to be of service!

I hope you feel much better soon Heidi. I was not in a good way on Wednesday and spent the day lying down – the world was spinning way too fast amongst other things.
I spent the morning and part of after lunch cutting things out. I have two pairs of Layette pants and three layette shirts ready to go in the pile. I want to break out the bubble…[Read more]

Great work Tamara!
I haven’t sewn as I’ve been sick this week 🙁 However I did get to go Op shopping today and came back with some nice pieces of fabric to use for Christmas gifts I’m making:) - Load More
