  • I did pretty poorly on my resolutions — my organization is worse, if anything, and I have one piece for my advent calendar, made in January, I think. I did finally make successful forays into sewing for myself, however, which felt really huge. I didn’t resolve to cut into more of my ‘good stuff’ but I did do it and was really happy. I think this…[Read more]

  • I just made my first pair of layette pants in a size 0-3 months. The legs seems super short. Is this correct? Has anyone been adding to the inseam. The crotch length is PLENTY long, in fact I removed a little bit of it as it will be for a baby in disposable diapers.

  • This year I am going to continue to focus on the quality of what I make. I started doing that this year and my sewing is improving no end.

I am going to find my teenage me and embrace having a go at sewing for me. I didn’t care about how complicated the pattern was I would try it and wear it, pretty much regardless of what the end product was…[Read more]

  • Happy New Year!
I had a lovely night with friends. We went into the city to watch the 9pm fireworks. I love living in a small city, the traffic was still very manageable immediately after the fireworks finished. 🙂
Nicole, if you really are getting rid of fabric I’ll put my hand up for some 🙂 Let me know and I can pay postage.

  • My reflections on how I achieved the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year. Overall I’m very pleased 🙂

    1. Sew from my stash and make do!
I sewed up 255.6m of fabric this year! 63.65m of knit fabric, 163.1m of woven and 26.7m of fleece.
Since overall I bought 121.05m of fabric this means I used at least 134.55m of fabric from my…[Read more]

    Happy New Year to all!

I hope everyone is safe and well.

My sewing goals for the New Year are to sew more thoughtfully (do we really need it)? and focus on finishing and fabric choices.

I also plan to downsize my stash. I am frequently given bags of fabric and patterns from ladies that no longer sew, which is lovely, but I think I need to cull…[Read more]

  • I was going to suggest the Jumprope placket instructions, but Nicole beat me to it 🙂

I have the jump rope pattern! I got it just for the placket. And it worked beautifully. I love ottobre, but their placket is above my pay grade.

The placket is now on the shirt, which is almost done. Buttonholes and a hem tomorrow, buttons the day after that. And then the next shirt! And possibly another one! Because if plackets are going to…[Read more]

@EllenMCM, do you have the Jumprope dress pattern? I was making my son a shirt last year and I pulled out the Jumprope instructions to help me do the sleeve plackets.

Still sewing my cousins dress. Next up, the Field Trip cargoes and tee for Tildy. Then I will be cutting more swimmers, school uniforms or a shirt for my husband.

  • Not a huge polar fleece fan, it is not cold enough here, but I do use cotton un-brushed fleece a lot.
I do interface as per usual but as this will make one side more rigid then the other, I will use a thin strip of interfacing to stabilise the seam area of the other piece of fabric.

I’m working on an Ottobre blouse with a partial placket. I made some practice, plackets, but am feeling wimpy about the real thing.

  • LOL Robin. It’s good to know that we both employ the same “system”!
