  • It depends on how much stretch the lace has to it. If you’re going to use it as an overlay with a non-stretch under it I would say you wouldn’t make any changes. If you’re using it with a stretch fabric underneath it, and they are both fairly stretchy, you may be able to eliminate the back zip, cut off the mid back seam allowance and then cut it…[Read more]

  • I love the fairy tale pattern! It is my favorite dress pattern! I have made numerous variations of this pattern for my four young granddaughters, including heirloom sewing Easter dresses, silk Christmas dresses and Halloween costumes. Now I would like to use it to recreate a stretch lace party dress I saw in a catalogue. Is it possible? How would…[Read more]

54mm at the house and still raining. No damage at the buildings but Murray has gone for a muddy bike ride to inspect what further fences and floodgates are down. Very windy but we still have power which I made the most of while Chloe was asleep and worked on hemming the tunic.

So today we have perfect sewing weather and we are going to make the…[Read more]

  • one year I had to make about 30 costumes for the kindergarten kids to be blackbirds, (along with numerous donkeys, ladybugs, fireflies, camels, stars, lambs, and angels for the older kids) for the school Christmas show. I made hats similar to the ones shown above in those wonderful pictures and video (just loved looking at those!) and the kiddos…[Read more]

  • That is completely adorable!

  • Washyvision – brilliant!

We were talking about the less fortunate – my daughter (4 and 5) were asking whether there were people who didn’t have beds, etc. My 4-year-old thought for awhile and then asked whether their aunt was poor. Her reasoning was that auntie must be poor as she lives in a very small basement apartment (with an exorbitant…[Read more]

We’re about to go to the fabric store to get some lining for the roller skate dress. Chris just said to Audrey:
“Are you ready to go out? We’re going to Hancock’s.”

And Audrey’s reply: “I don’t like to go to Hancock’s, how about I stay here instead?”

Oh dear. My three year old wants to stay home by herself!

  • Decision made, I’m going roller skate. Decision so final that I bought the digital pattern, and Chris has printed it at work.

  • What on earth were you doing online at that time, Nicole?? Or was it feed time?

Nesting re-kicked in a few weeks ago and I spent that time sewing up a cloth diaper stash for the newbie. As soon as my order for more folder elastic arrives, I can finish the last cover, which will complete my stash of 12 newborn fitted diapers, four PUL covers and six nb/small adjustable pocket diapers complete with hemp/microfiber inserts (for…[Read more]

Wow, everyone is very busy at the moment!

Good luck with the cyclone, Tamara. I really need to keep an eye on the Australian news. I feel very isolated here. At home we watched the ABC news nearly every night, but we aren’t watching any news at the moment. Trying to navigate the local TV channels is interesting! I’m mostly just watching instant…[Read more]

  • I’ve lined the Secret Agent Trench in fleece which worked very well.

I had a few ideas but I say’go with the penguins’

  • Very easy to put on, and it’s polar fleece, so no need to finish seams. I folded up the bottom edge and zig-zagged it to hem, but you could even leave it raw. From memory, I made it a bit small, and just slashed it open and zig-zagged an extra triangle of fleece in. Very forgiving fabric, and from the audience no-one would be able to see detail…[Read more]
