I thought they were only for using when you designed your own patterns and you cut notches in the tissue! Are you saying they work to cut out notches in fabric?? If so, I am definitely getting some!

Hugo managed to get some rice cereal into trixie so she slept all evening instead of me feeding all evening
I got the trousers and skirt made and a Continental blouse made up to setting in the sleevesI prewashed some lawn to make another trial run for husbands Liberty shirt. He has lost weight so the last one is too baggy now

Do any of you prolific sewists use notching tools? I hate cutting those little notches!

I think the problem with a button placket would be that it will need to cross the waist seam. Since the bodice and waistline are fairly fitted I’m not sure a partial button placket would allow you to get the waist past shoulders or hips.
My very first fairy tale dress was a sheer crinkly fabric which I underlined and then lined. It wasn’t any more…[Read more] -

Fiber Club! 10 years agoHa! EZ is definitely … well, perhaps an acquired taste. Ok, then maybe the freeform style is not for you. Brooklyn Tweed is more than just Jared Flood, a lot of other people design for them as well. Another designer you might like who writes in a very detailed stitch-by-stitch style is … I forget her actual name, she goes by 6.5stitches on…[Read more]

Can anyone provide a little more detail on how to change the back of the Fairy Tale dress from a zippered closing to a button closing? I’ve read the post that says to use a pattern with buttons for a guide, but I’m not exactly sure where to start or how to do that. This is for a First Communion dress, and I’d really love to use the Fairy Tale…[Read more]

Isn’t it? I want the bunny print from the catalogue also but Chloe was not in the mood to shop so, next time.
I topstitched the teaparty dress and made buttonholes but that is all the actual sewing I did today.
I cut three layette shirts and two bodysuits all with white backgrounds so I can sew them all at the same time.
I also got busy cutting…[Read more]

I have used blind cord before and that works well. I had some on hand from making roman blinds and it was just the right size.

Fiber Club! 10 years agoI used to knit a lot. But sewing is so much faster. I never really learned the faster method of throwing the yarn so I never got fast at it.
I’ve thought of knitting recently too, though, as I’d love to make my son a sweater. I made a sweater for my now-15 year old when she was 2 and she wore it for 3 years! She loved that thing. I used a yarn…[Read more]

I believe Liesl wrote about this in an older blog post, but I recall that she recommended older editions of the Big 4 type books or Good Housekeeping/Reader’s Digest. She said the older books give more detailed information on more topics; the newer ones assume you want to do fewer really challenging things and omit them.
I picked up a 1970’s…[Read more]
